Everything from sex stories, to pictures of naked people, to videos of multiple people intertwined in a sweaty froth of ecstasy. What do you think ? Good for society ? Degrading to women (and farm animals) ?

I believe in a world where such things are not required.
While I don't partake, the idea is fine for some. But there are certain things that are degrading... So I guess Yes. I just avoid it.

Good for society and degrading to animals. Except smut. That's just bad.
The way I see it is that everyone has a choice. You choose to be in a video. You choose to buy a video. You can't claim something is degrading when you have that choice. It's when you are forced into something that it's degrading. Those who are against it are douchebags, because it doesn't usually have anything to do with them and they should just stay out of it.

the whole taboo of porn was created by religious belief. fact is that enjoying sex is part of being human, weather you are man or woman. yes some people don't care all that much for it, and the ones that actually just don't want to have it either has something in the past that makes it difficult for the person to enjoy in their mind or they have something wrong in general(some sort of malaty that makes it painful to do)
Our minds are programmed to desire sex, this ensures future generations. Porn is just a way for us to fufil this desire. kind of like living vicariously through the person on the screen. It isn't degrading to anyone. Every female I know enjoys porn, some have even made their own homebrew the camera makes it more exciting for them, if they were to get paid for it they would like it even more. so... yes, porn is good, fun to watch, even more fun to make.

Porn curbs sexual frustration/isolation and when combined with stripping pays for a lot of college educations. It goes without saying it should never get in the way of actual getting some, but it can be part of a healthy relationship if that's not happening and the other person shouldn't feel threatened by it.

I agree with philly, I also think that people shy away from saying they like porn, because they are raised to think it is wrong. If you are comfortable with yourself then porn is fun, but the real thing is always better

This thread reminds me of my adventures last weekend.

I don't see it as degrading to women. *shrugs* I don't see it much as a taboo either; porn exists, and people watch it. Whoop-ti-do. Humans are sexual creatures, period - if not for that, we'd have died out a long time ago.

I think that our national attitude toward porn has radically changed since the early 90's. Since there is wide spread, easy access to porn over the Internet, it is much easier to view and there is no stigma attached. No more sneaking down to the local party store for a Penthouse and hiding magazines through out the house, hoping no one discovers it. People are free to use porn for self gratification in the privacy of their own home with out fear of being spotted by the Morality Police. Three cheers for the Internet 8-)
