The confickr worm (but don't panic)
#1
So, if you haven't heard, there's this little worm called Confickr making the rounds on the internet. Granted, it's nothing new, it's been around for a bit, but it's scaring the everliving pee out of system admins.

Why? No one has a clue as to what the hell this worm does. If the writer was malicious, odds are, it will download remote instructions from some website and do some nasty things. Maybe it won't. Nobody knows, but it's supposed to go off tomorrow.

HOWEVER, here's why you shouldn't panic.

1) Microsoft patched this bad boy back in October 2008.
2) It's not going to take down the internet. Granted, the writer(s) have an army of infected computers at their disposal, but they want money. They'll probably just attack some websites and blackmail companies into giving them money.

How to protect yourself
1) Patch your computer! http://update.microsoft.com
2) Use the removal tool if you suspect you're infected. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/962007
3) Please turn on Automatic Updates.

Now you know, and knowing is half the battle. G.I. JOE!!
Everyday you reinvent yourself into a bigger cock-shite than ever. It's incredible. I don't know how you do it. I admire you.

I think that this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody's part.

Is that what they were talking about of the show this morning?

I personally use Avast! and it works really well especially for a free program (it doesn't give any annoying popups about viruses and just deletes them instead).
