Money Laundering: To take money earned from illegal sources and report it as income from a legal source.
Most basic: Front Restuarant, a lot of cash. Might sell 10K of dinners, but you tack on 15K from extortion, drug sales, then return 13K in expenses, like food or liquor, to the group providing the original 15K.
Through individual: Have some one who deals with a lot of cash, maybe from signings, appearances, side group puts money into an individual's account, now it is protected and trackable, then gets in returned.
SO? Why don't drug dealers just put money into bank accounts? Well, then you have to deal with declaring the money as income and explaining it (i.e. 100K of deposits, yet you have no job). Also, financial institutions are trained to question anyone trying to buy multiple large Money Orders. If the money is out of cash and in MOs, then they are someone protected. Someone steals your MO, you can stop payment. Someone steals your cash, you have to kill them.

Boy the way Glen Miller played,
songs that made the hit parade,
guys like us we had it made,
those were the days,
and you know where you were then,
girls were girls and men were men,
mister we could use a man like Herbert Hoover again,
didn't need no welfare states
everybody pulled his weight,
gee our old Lasalle ran great,
those were the days!
