| Hanger-On Registered: Jan. 70  | And NO, IT'S NOT different. I've always hated assholes like him that think it is funny to wish death on anyone. He sits in that chair on the radio with his "wacky" personality and claims that he hopes that some lady get's hit by a bus, or falls victim to some other tragedy because he annoyed her. But "he's so funny and creative" FUCK HIM!! It's always pissed me off, and this horrible attack is yet another example of why I fucking hate people that do that. Becuase you never know what could happen. You all know that, if a week ago, he had said to someone he disagreed with, "I hope the World Trade Center gets hit by a plane and you blow up in the explosion", there would be a group of people laughing at his creativity and wit. You also know, that IS something he would say, and that's why I will always fucking hate him. And in a week, when O and A go back to doing their normal show, they will unfortunately wheel that douchebag in, and he will start wishing death on others. If not a week from now, a month from now, or a year from now. But he will continue to wish this shit on people. Joke or not, It's just unacceptable. | ||||

| O&A Board Veteran Registered: Feb. 01 | I will say this because I have the pleasure of being able to say that I know Jim Norton and have had the opportunity to converse and socialize on a small basis with him. If you were a more educated or informed person, you would realize that Jim is one of the most polite, considerate, and friendly people that you will ever meet. The things he says in his comedy act are rountines and do not necessarily reflect his personal views and beliefs. Some people need comedy to help them deal with tragedy. Just because you don't share someone's way of coping does not make them wrong. And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air, Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there. He is a really nice person, and I think you need to realize that his comedy act is just that, an act. Statements like yours are exactly what caused this tradgedy in the first place, a bunch of people making judgements about people and things they don't know about. And secondly if you sometimes listen to Norton when he does go off on a political thing he actually has quite an intelligent head on his shoulders. | Hanger-On Registered: Jan. 70 | The responses to this are typical to most on this board. Mindlessly following what the masses are saying. If anyone on the show does anything, they are 100% right. If anyone not a friend of the show does anything they are 100% wrong. Example: People actually chiding Stern for his shows, when he was pretty much putting on the same show as O and A. Very serious, no jokes about the disaster, some levity to take the pressure off, but essentially the same show. But becusae it was Stern, it was shit. I'm not saying that Norton is a bad guy. I'm not saying that he actually WANTS people to die. slipping in a puddle of AIDS, and the like are foolish, and in many cases funny. What annoys me know and has annoyed me before is when he actually wishes death upon people. There is no question that he would have said "I hope your plane crashes into a building and you die" on the show. Obviously meant as a joke. If he said it now, it wouldn't be a joke and everyone would want to burn him alive, so why would it be funny before. You simply don't joke about people getting hit by buses. I also realize that in grand scheme of things, this whole post is meaningless. While I do not live in New York, I've been glued to the TV, and been an emotional basketcase like the rest of the country. There are still people I know who are unaccounted for. Now in regards to me "not getting it". In short, fuck off. I was listening to O and A while you were still waiting in line at Barnes and Noble to have Stern sign you copy of Private Parts. So I disagree with one guy on the show. It makes me an enemy of the board now? Blow me. | ||||

I never met the guy, but you have to realize that he's a comedian. 90% of what is said on O & A's show, these past few days excluded, is inappropiate. However, I disagree with it and believe that when Norton says these 'wacky', 'off the wall' statements he says them forcefully, but he says them as a comic and trying to create humor and not a hostile environment. If you still don't care for his brand of humor... fine. That's your call, my friend. However, I still enjoy his sick disturbing brand of humor and don't tread on me for my opinion. In the end.. it's all opinion.. which EVERYONE is allowed to express, both you.. and those that disagree with you. You may have noticed.. i started this thread rather upset, but have calmed down over the course of typing.. mood swings are to be expected I guess... but please don't use that "I've been listening longer" stance, that is not Opinion, that is elitism.. and I DO find that offenseive.
