| Hanger-On Registered: Jan. 70 | In fact, I do. I know that you don't just give out feeds to newbies becuase you don't feel like it. I've seen it insinuated here there there is a reason more important than that. What could that reason possibly be. There are at least five people here that have feeds. Many of them put them in their sigs. However the wording in the sig isn't "HEY LISTEN TO THE SHOW OVER THE INTERNET HERE", it's just "xxxxRadio" or the likes. Why the cryptics? There has to be a reason why no one every open says where to listen online, and you have to search for a feed longer than finding the G spot. HOW YOU LIKE ME NOW, BITCH??!! Many of the broadcasters do not appreciate their links being posted on the board. Just because someone isn't getting help through replys on the board, doesn't mean they have not been helped through IM's or Email messages. But that was my experience.... Thank You, Austin | ||||

| Psychopath Registered: Aug. 01 | Well, I'm not a broadcaster, just a faithful SU listener... But from what I understand when links were provided, they were disabled quickly. It isn't exactly legal to broadcast a live feed of a radio station over the internet. By adding the links in their sigs requires a bit of an effort to locate, thus hope is the link will be live longer. Again, I'm a listener, not a broadcaster. Chuck and av8er are the ones in the know.... I just wanted to point out that even though it appears the newbies are not getting help on the board and only getting tooled on, they are probably receiving help in IM or emails. Well that topic that I pointed the guy to was the exact same topic title that his was, and it had the answer he was looking for. Why don't you look at every thread in this forum that says "how do I get a link" and tell me how many you have to search through before you actually find one with an answer that gives a link to a feed. There's a big difference between tooling on people for missing the "official naughty nightie thread" and repeating posts, and witholding the information the entire forum was setup for. I think most people don't look they just post--, that's what i did. besides i'll admit that the majority of posts in SU are just newbies gettin tooled on; (not that there is anything wrong with that) so posting any real answer eliminates the fun (while jeopardizing security! | Psychopath Registered: Nov. 00 | It appears that SOME of us stress the "Syndication" part of SU, but don't quite grasp the "Underground" part of it. See, this is not a joke set up by O&A. It is NOT something Infinity condones or supports, hence, it is in violation of the FCC. Links are not advertised for much the same reason that people may know where to buy pot (not me, of course), but the Dealers aren't listed in the yellow pages. Why? Because there are very powerful parties that would be just ducky with having it all shut down. That's it in a nutshell. Please refer others to this post the next time this asinine question gets asked. It a silly, stupid question that half the people on the short bus could figure out. "not advertising" has to be the stupidest thing I've seen on this board in a while. Obviously the FCC doesn't like this, but do you actually think you not telling a poster where to find it will stop the FCC if they come looking? So you don't tell the newbies where to find the links so they can search for them. They're "stupid" if they can't find them. But you think this Mafia-like secrecy is going to keep the FCC away. If some FCC agent ever comes around on this board, he or she will just not be able to find these links or feeds? Please. A new poster might find it difficult to decipher the code here, but someone that knows what they are looking for can easily find it. That's the problem. New people don't know what they are looking for. The only people you are hurting the exact ones you should be helping. The security here is just vault-like. | O&A Board Veteran Registered: Jul. 00 | I can't believe I'm explaining this AGAIN but, it seems this just won't go away atherwise. I don't know of any feed ever getting "shut down" by the FCC or by Infinity broadcasting. I doubt that they'd waste their time with such a small problem. If they even see it as a problem. We are after all getting their product to people that want it and can't get it. I do, however, know that feeds have been "shut down" by their broadcast servers as a result of anonymous tips regarding FCC violations. I suspect that these "tips" came from fans of other radio programs. So, Yes. Feeds do get shut down. But, if you wanted to interfere with an underground broadcast of, let's say... I don't know, maube... Howard Stern. How much time would you spend looking for the feed info? If it wasn't blatantly obvious, would you bother to read 3 or 4 posts? Would you make you e-mail address or AIM available to the people that you were looking to shut down? Is this system fool proof? No. We're all aware of that. We don't need every idiot that thinks he's got a better way coming in every few months and exploiting the system's weaknesses either. The system in effect here, however flawed, has been woking quite well for a long time. We really haven't had much trouble with feeds being shut down. And, listener numbers are growing steadily. The people that need feeds are getting them. The fact is, we've been getting more trouble from the rest of the board than from newbies or outsiders lately. And, that's just fine with me. I enjoy the entertainment. So, once again I'll tell you... You don't not know what you're talking about and you should really keep your comments to yourself unless you're going to accept some responsability for them.
