And, as much as I like finding new software, I rarely come across Linux versions of it. Take your Linux, and your L337ist attitude and cram it in your floppy drive. :)

| O&A Board Regular Registered: Jan. 01 | Windows and M$ blows it out my ass. At least the Linux camp isn't greedy enough to sue schools for not paying enough. Devices are easy nowadays. Even USB is supported now. DrakConf is as simple if not simpler than Windows. The software argument is complete BS. On linux there is usually that same software or a better software to do the same task(StarOffice is way better than MSOffice). Even if that's not available which is unlikely you can emulate it with Wine. Wine actually works with every non game prog on Windows and works 10-155 better with the program than Windows itself! As for games there is a new project called WineX that emulates Windows and allows you to run games. Currently it has about 15% compaitably but like all Linux projects will be finished in no time. | Hanger-On Registered: Jan. 70 | Windows2000 is 100x better at managing memory than Win9x/Me was, and that's the only complaint I had about them. Nothing is more compatible than Windows. Your, "you can emulate Windows", or "they have the same programs" argument is complete shit. There is no Photoshop for Linux (yet), and that's just the tip of the iceberg. If I use one of your mirror programs, what are the chances that someone using Word will see the same document I see in FauxWord(under Linux)? While Linux may be more stable (shit, anything would be stable if it's only running minimal programs), Windows is still the norm. Linux is becoming ever popular because it's cheap, but then, so's your mother. :)

And GIMP(a Linux photo editing program) is pretty damn good too. Documents in Word are easily viewable if made in Linux. Oh an I have had Windows fuck up without me installing anything. Linux can handle a plethora of programs. Maybe that's why you can buy a distro with tons of programs included for a low price. Linux is more popular because it's cheap, modifiable, more stable, and just generally better. And at least my mother doesn't charge 300 for a blowjob:). And I don't see Windows for full download easily right there on the site of the manufacturer. Oh and I can run 20 browser windows, aim, a photo editor, 5 terminals, an mp3 player, a cd player, and 20 desktop environments with a slight slowdown. I don't use that much and I have 3 monitors worth of desktop space to operate in. The most you will ever really do simultaneiously is 3 to 5 progrmas. Shit, I could probably have a hundred browser windows open, but what the fuck good would it do? **EDIT- by the way, with a PIII 1GHz and 768MB RAM, I have yet to see a slow down, or have to wait for a program to process something.

| O&A Board Regular Registered: Jan. 01 | I usually don't do 20 browser windows but a likely scenario would be 3 or 4 of oa.co, 3 or 4 of rf.net, 1 for my mail, 3 or so for other sites, etc. And I spread them across my virtual desktops. I don't usually do this but Windows chokes on the first sign of lots of activity. You know how useful this is when you are looking for porn and there are all those pop ups? You may have 3 monitors but I have 20 virtual desktops to use at will. EDIT-Kid not all of us can afford to get that much RAM. | Hanger-On Registered: Jan. 70 |  Check the system resources. What do you see? Why use virtual desktops when you could have multiple monitors in Windows simply by connecting them? I'd rather turn my head a little to look at another monitor rather than fumble through multiple "virtual desktops". **EDIT - 256MB RAM - $34 US at the last computer show I went to.

I just press ctrl+tab and I can go thru each virtual desktop. 256 still won't stop you from Windows crashing you may need 768. I can get that 768 performance on my Linux box with 128. Imagine how fucking stable it would be with 728. Plus I think I'll wait till Christmas so I can get a dual chip mobo with ddr ram. I wouldn't want to spend money on RAM I'd have to replace no matter how cheap. Linux can be hella stable with a lot less power in your system. | O&A Board Regular Registered: Jan. 01 | Kid a multi-monitor setup can be done on Linux so that can't help for the case for windows. Emulation software is extremely easy. Once you get installed you have the windows environment done better than Windows itself. Oh and StarOffice beats the shit out of MsOffice. All apps can be done on Linux easily(minus games which I expect to be fixed pretty quickly especially with native games being made). I'll take the constant crashing of a Windows OS, i dont feel like being Mr. Smartey Programmer Man and memorize 40 lines of code just to get my cd door to eject properly. The only downloads i really do nowadays are from Direct Connect. Today alone, i downloaded 7 gigs of anime and movies. God Bless Broadband.
