You can't give in to your fears like that. That's the nature of terrorism. It's not just about physical harm, and death. It's about pyschological harm. Al Queda wants the world to fear flying. They want the travel to cut down. why? economic and pyschological hardships for the countries that prosper from it. So to you, I say congradulations for giving in and joining their side. (I'm being sarcastic about the congradulations but you understand what I mean. I hope)  Fuck you Ken. | ||||

| O&A Board Regular Registered: Nov. 00 | Why do I support high speed trains? Is it because I won't fly? Wrong. Before 9/11, our air system was SEVERELY overburdened. The majority of flights were late because of the large volume of planes flying. The turn around time between landing and taking off was so short it affected maintenance of of the aircraft. If we had a good high speed rail system, you would be able to go from NY to Orlando in only a few hours or go form NY to LA over night. With that convenience, a lot of people would take the train instead of flying and releave a lot of the burden on our air system. That would allow for SAFER flying, both in improved air traffic control and longer maintenance periods. At the rate of growth seen before 9/11, the air industry could not support the expected growth over the next few years. The airports and air corridors would just be too crowded. | ||||

By being chicken-little and start crying "the sky is falling, the sky is falling" and not living your day-to-day lives as you normally would, you are giving in to them - plain and simple. Whatever happens, happens. I was in the WTC the day before the planes hit (almost 24 hours prior to be exact), so if they decided to do it on the 10th as oppossed to the 11th, I could be among the missing today. Was I freaked out? Yeah, of course. Has it made me fearful of my life? I can't be fearful of a situation that which I have no control over. Avoiding flying isn't control - its just opening another possibility of something happening to you another way. WHAT RESPONSE??? That was why I reverted to that South Park episode. There is no response once a plane drops on you. It is because we can't respond that we are nervous and perhaps over reacting in swearing off air travel. But react as you will...... I saw the accident attributed to William Shatner's gremlin in another thread, go quickly. | ||||
