O&A Board Veteran Registered: May. 00 | Hitchcock would be a good choice, but if I were GM, I would ask the Devils for permission to talk to Larry Robinson. No matter what you think about him, since he was a coach of the Devils, he knows his hockey and he knows defense, which is something the Rangers sorely need And now I feel like I'm alive I don't know how I got so low These voices in my mind Tell my it's killing time It is a thrill I can't describe

O&A Board Regular Registered: Aug. 00 | If Robinson is to work defensively, first he needs a defense. Leetch and Berard and Poti are a good foundation to start with however, so it might be a good choice. Might be interesting to see how Leetch and Berard react to switching their styles though - both are very offensive minded. Long live the Gonzo sigs! Thanks Amy! O&A Board Regular Registered: Jan. 01 | for some reason, this was missing from your quote (but was in the ESPN report):quote: also, on another page, this was mentioned quote: sportsnet.ca also mentions Pat Burns Technically Low wasn't fired, just had his contract not renewed, but at least Sather didn't wait. Robinson's history has been much better as an assistant coach than as head coach - sometimes the requirements of being a HC prevent you from doing things you can do as an assistant. I wouldn't be upset if Paddock got a shot; he has been doing the job at Hartford. This message was edited by PeterDragon on 4-15-02 @ 5:01 PM

O&A Board Regular Registered: Aug. 01 | Robinson won a cup not a long while ago. I'd definetley consider him. Right now though, Hitchcock is the best candidate IMO. His team was so dominant, and besdies this year they have always been a cup contender. We need that kind of consistency and playoff experience. He also has Olympic experience and a couple All-Star games if that counts for anything :)

O&A Board Regular Registered: Jan. 01 | this is on cnnsi.com:quote: Brooks - been there, done that. Defensive schemes are exactly what this team needs, and someone who can get Kloucek (and maybe Fedor Tutin) - good young physical defensemen -some playing time. here is Stan Fischler's take Top 10 candidates to replace Low Bryan Trottier? Tutin, by the way, is a 18+ yr old playing juniors- this is the way he is decribed by ranger scouts - "Fedor is a player who is poised with the puck and see the ice very well. He is solid like a rock defensively and never gets beat one-on-one. He concentrates on playing a defensive role and is excellent killing penalties." Just what team needs. O&A Board Regular Registered: Aug. 01 | I totally forgot about Pat Burns, I think he wouldn't be a bad coach. Also Joel Quenville has LOTS of playoff experience. Herb Brooks is kind of a crappy coach IMO. He did help the Pens lots but I don't think he would last long in New York.

O&A Board Regular Registered: Dec. 00 | THANK GOD!!!! I really dont care who takes over, he cant be much worse than Low. I feel it will go to Hitchcock. Id rather see Ted Nolan but I would seriously doubt that Sather is going to hire somebody he cant control and who will be eyeing his job. I think Id rather have Burns though than Hitchcock. Heres my list in order of guys I want. 1. Ted Nolan 2. Larry Robinson 3. John Paddock 4. Pat Burns 5. Ken Hitchcock Unfortunately I dont see either #1 or #2 happening. But any of those 5 will be much better than Low. Id put my money on Hitchcock getting the job.

Psychopath Registered: Mar. 01 | A lot of people blame Low. Let's face some facts - he isn't the one going out playing every night. It's the players who have to get the job done - and they didn't. But everyone saw this coming. Next person they have to get rid of is Nedved.

Psychopath Registered: Oct. 00 | The defence is really what we need. the offensive lines of Lindros,Rucinsky,Bure and Fleury,McCarthy,Malakov are just plain great. The defensivemen dont ned to be changed, its just that they need to start from sctatch. there is too much independance on the team if you notice. Different styles are good, but each player has to learn the other's style. All season, our line up has been constantly changing, and thats another huge drawback. O&A Board Regular Registered: Sep. 00 | Mike Keenen....if they have to fire Sather to bring him in im all for it. Sather is overrated its easy to win when you have gretzky and Messier in their prime. Keenen did well in Boston and got fired only bec they changed G.M's like in vancouver. In Florida he came in way to late to turn the season around. He doesnt get along well with the higher ups but he wins and thats what counts. I know it probably wont happen bec of too many logistics. They need to find someone who has rings, is defensive minded and preferably has a passion for the rangers.

O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | The coach I want and yes he is still a player but he should retire and become coach is Mark Messier. I think he is too old to contribute much on the ice anymore but his leadership would help the rangers and if the rangers would play for anyone it would be for Messier.

Psychopath Registered: Mar. 01 | Have I mentioned - GO ISLES!!! Yes, I am an Islander fan. :-D As for the Rangers, they need a big hitter on D. Someone like Witt from Washington or Hatcher from Dallas. Someone who will make people pay for coming into the Rangers zone. Forwards were not scared to come into the Rangers end because they knew they were not gonna get hit. If they know what they are doing, they will try to get a big defenseman. Offense isn't a problem. ___________________________________________________________________ I'm bigger than the Devil combined with Schindler's list.

O&A Board Regular Registered: Jan. 01 | quote: That's the coach's job - motivate players, and install system to get most out of them. Low may have been a good guy, but that doesn't get it done. Keenan - may be good coach, but I'm still pissed at the Riley act he pulled, and he may have been one to send Amonte away. Whoever comes in better do something about the god damn penalty killing and defense in general. And Sather better wake up and stop drooling over these offensive defensemen. I've said it before, Thomas Kloucek needs more ice time. They complained about some of his mistakes, but what did they accomplish by sitting him? He's young, he hits, and he is already on the team. Berard was an unnecessary and failed experiment, especially with acquisition of Poti. The only question with Hitchcock is that supposedly he might keep Free Agents out of here. This Hitchcock quote is from Daily News: quote: that puts him at top of my list. (and his record at Dallas doesn't hurt. As for IslesBaby, anyone who adds something to a discussion is welcome; anyone who demonstrates lack of intelligence should stay with their own team. Just an opinion.
