| Don't worry. Ten years turns to thirty quicker than you think. But in the here and now, the Flyers, as awful as they are, are still way better than the Rangers.

| Let's see:
Rangers started 2001-2002 in a rebuilding mode, and started strong but faded.
Flyers began as pre-season favorite to make it to Finals from the East, but get the shit kicked out of them in 1st round.
Which team underachieved ??? :-p
2002 Crack Committee Objectives: (You gotta believe....)
1. 94 Wins and NL East Title by the Mets this year
2. Hate the Braves with PASSION
3. All 5 Starters have winning records this year
4. Mets win World Series |

| The Rangers didn't fade - they plummeted. From first place in December to out of the playoffs is a pretty big plunge. And I would hardly call this year a rebuilding one for the Rangers. Getting Lindros isn’t called rebuilding. It's called trying to win now.
Which brings me to the Olympics. I really don't like NHL players playing in the Olympics. Ritcher, Leetch, Fleury – they played their hearts out trying to get a medal. They gave everything they had in the Olympics and didn’t have a lot left for the rest of the regular season. If they didn’t play in the Olympics, who knows, the Rangers might have made it to the playoffs.
As for the Flyers, they need some major changes too. Like a good philosophy. Flyer players are saying Barber wasn’t open to listening to the players when they came to him. For that, I think the Flyers are assholes. The guy lost his wife in December. Now, a topic that should be kept private is being spewed all over the place. Poor class on the part of some Flyer players. You know the shit is gonna hit the fan when your goalie comes out to the blue line and almost asks to be taken out.

| Well, it sucks to see, but you knew it was gonna happen:
quote:
VOORHEES, N.J. -- Coach Bill Barber was fired by the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday after the team lost in the first round of the playoffs for the second straight year.
With players complaining and the team sputtering its way out of the playoffs, Bill Barber had to go.
Barber, the NHL's Coach of the Year last season, is the fifth coach the Flyers have let go since 1997.
The team announced Barber's dismissal at a Tuesday news conference.
The Flyers won the Atlantic Division with 97 points, earning the No. 2 seeding in the Eastern Conference playoffs. But they lost the best-of-seven series to the No. 7-seeded Ottawa Senators in five games, scoring a record-low total of just two goals.
Barber was criticized Monday by several players, including captain Keith Primeau, who said the coaching staff wasn't open to suggestions from the players.
"We had the worst power play in the league, why are we not practicing it?" Primeau said. "The tirades on the bench. All season long we said if someone makes a mistake, they're getting yelled at.
"We say when we come to the bench, make that adjustment. He wants the player to make the adjustment. Our job is to play. I felt like I was having to make the adjustments on the bench. I don't feel that's part of my job description."
The Flyers had a payroll of $55 million and a roster at the start of the season that included seven players who have been All-Stars. Three had scored 50 goals in a season.
Instead, the Flyers established an NHL record for futility, becoming the first team to go five consecutive games -- dating to last season -- without scoring a goal in postseason regulation time.
Philadelphia won the Atlantic Division and finished second in the conference, but lost to Ottawa in five games -- scoring only two goals.
The Flyers were 31-16-7 after Barber took over for Craig Ramsay in December 2000, but they lost in six games to Buffalo in the playoffs.

| Stiffy can't spell at all, but for once, I have to agree with him, I would have liked to see Clarke gone a long time ago. Unfortunately for everyone (since fans of Flyers and other teams seem to agree on this) he's not going anywhere. I only hold out hope that Ed Snyder keeps his word and has a say as to who gets hired next. Personally, I'd like to see Hitchcock here, but who knows what will happen. I know the Rangers are also interested. I know he's the type that won't take no shit from any whining players, which is what we need. I just hope we don't screw this up, because he seems to know what it takes to have a winning team.
