| O&A Board Regular Registered: Sep. 00 | Word up Froy Listen to what the man says, newbie is a state of mind... Actually, the best way to tell if you are a newbie or not is by your status. This may be an outrageous assumption here, but when you get something other than "Please fill my mouth with feces" you might not be a newbie anymore. Statuses, (or what ever the plural of status is...stati??) are gifts for those who have a brain and can prove it. | O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | When I was adopted by DB, he asked me if I wanted My Status changed. I said no, that I hadn't fully developed a personality on the board, that I wasn't recognized. I guess that I started to "get it". The most important thing I can say is, if you're going to say something, let it be something that other people can find useful. Back in January, guys were running up 300 posts in 48 hrs. They were mostly "Dillons". I believe that around that moment that post counts stopped mattering, but that is a topic I am not an expert in so do not trust my statement. I also had heard on O&A about 500th post congratulations. But think about it, what's more valuable, someone just responding to every message, searching for someone to screw up, or someone who has expertise in certain areas and adds useful information to the board. This is someone who posts an amazing number of posts dedicated to "duhhh do you wanna new sig pic I saw yours and have somew really good ideas let me do it aww come on let me do it. Ialreday did it see see see?? I'm good let me do another oneduhhhh" and so on and so forth. This jack off was also banned but came back under another name which yours truley was the first to catch and let the rest of the board know!! Of course we tooled on him for a while longer using him as our little fuck toy(the board used to be quite an unfriendly place)untill he really fucked up bad, after which he was banned for life!!! I started out just checking out the threads(mostly SU and enimies of the show) and when one of those radio edit faggits tried some shit I let 'em have it. As time went on and I became more comfortable with the goings on around here I went to different topics and made my posts RELAVENT!!! This would be one of the most important things to do!!!! So my advice would be relax, take a look around find the topic that intrests you the most and just go from there. This is a board about the funniest show on the planet, I have seen it evolve and become even more with topics about sports, music, off topic, south park and more!!! Rookie gave the best advice, just chill, dont be fake and try to impress everybody all at once. Everybody gets tooled on, its part of being a member of this board. Asking a intelligent question, or reponding thoughtfully to a post will go alot farther than regurgitating some sound clip from the show. When you are more comfotable, it is much easier to post and to actively participate in a discussion. So until you are at ease, remember this, its just a messageboard, dont take anything said here to heart.    "why do you cry? OK, here... my one overdeveloped piece of advice.. Posted for the first time on the new board... the "Form Letter": The reason ------------------------------------------------------------------------ some new people get shat on is they don't take the time to learn about how the board works. Normally, Someone would explain the problem first. Lately, however, every other new topic is from someone new on the board doing something they shouldn't, and if they had taken the time to look they would know. So people are rather short-tempered right now. I'm sorry, short-tempered-er, we're always short-tempered around here. I'll try to explain a few things, as I'm sure the Mods are sick of doing it, and quite frankly, I understand why. Try to follow this.. #1 Before you start a new topic, make sure there isn't a thread already up for it. #2 Post in the appropriate forum. #3 Don't start a new topic that is pointless... such as a "This is my 1st/50th/100th post" #4 Don't bitch about how the board is run. It's free, the people who maintain it don't get paid to do so, and they know what they're doing. #5 If you get a new status, DON'T BITCH or whine about it. It will just get worse. #6 Before you ask a stupid question, run a search to see if somebody else already asked. We don't hate newbies... I actually started off pretty good here. I nosed around, got a feel for the place, and found my niche, do the same. #7 Most importantly, Remember I said they don't get paid? Good, now keep this in mind, never, NEVER piss off the mods!! Too few people appreciate their efforts and thus they can be rather volatile when people step on them, so don't! Remember, there are alot of stupid, assinine people that the Mods have to deal with, and when someone gets on their nerves alot that person is going to suffer. Then again, since I'm not a Mod, you probably shouldn't listen to a single word I've said. I could be giving you false info just to get you in trouble :D Welcome to Camp Nicey Nice, now take a number and go Fuck yourself! ;) __________________________________________________ OK, please keep in mind 2 things.. 1) I wasn't a Mod when wrote this... 2) This would normally be posted only after an on-air mention, when the board would be flooded with new members who believed every negative "Newbie bashing" comment about the place made on the show and were thus acting overly-tough..
