This isn't a recent thing either as I can recall it going on since the days of "You down with O.P.P.? Yeah you know me." We Will Never Forget You

I don't know the name, but it's the one where they sample the theme from, The Jeffersons, -'Moving on up'. well, i don't think it's a trend snoteater, i mean, busta rhymes does the same thing too in a couple of his videos...but the bottom line is - the song sucks! i mean, shit, nelly's songs ALL suck. who can really get offended? i don't think they meant it as any form of minstrelcy- but who knows. in everlast's video, black jesus- they have a white dude dressed up in blackface who they cut back and forth to in quick edits. he didn't mean anything demeaning by it. I just think it's funny everytime i hear one of those, 'Oh my god, these black {insert brand-X black entertainer} media people are doing this or that, if WHITE {insert brand-X white entertainer} media people EVER did that................heavens-to-betsy!!! the entire bedrock of american society would just ATTACK said white media people in a foray of criticism, outrage and double standards' ..or so the argument goes..sorry folks, i'm just not biting. it doesn't happen. shit is done all the time to that effect, with absolutely no repercussions. the rare time you do hear about someone like the 'greasemen' getting fired..it's because of something heinous that he did that deserved censure. making fun of a man that was dragged to death, his body being split and torn apart literally, while he was still alive...and to add insult..JUST because he was black..that's fucking heinous and the greaseman deserved what he got. just like the KKK idiot-savants that did the act deserved what they got and worse. where you DO have a point, and i've brought this point up before, is with those infernal idiots, the black hebrew israelites..for the life of me I don't understand WHY they're allowed to preach their crap daily and nightly in the fucking middle of new york?? should we let the KKK come up next and do their shit?? damn!!! Plus movin on up was a disgrace. "For all we have and are, for all our children's fate, stand up and take the war, the Hun is at the gate!" --- Rudyard Kipling She-Mail Me Here

Don't even watchBET which MTV OWNS Like Terrible Negro said, there are groups like the Roots out there who are not out their in the full "bling bling" glory. Personally I hate this fashion show going on in hip-hop. The Cash Phoney Millionaries (guess what, most of them aren't millionaries since they've been fucked in record deals) and Master P needs to be fucked up like Bin Laden will be. And NELLY FUCKING SUCKS and the St. Lunatics are (in a norton voice), awful! quote: Redman, what a brillant artist. But don't you think that by portraiting this stereotype it does great damage to the black community as a self-fulfilling prohecy? Don't get me wrong, I don't mean black kids are going to go out and commit crimes after watching these videos, what I mean is that they will feel they have to 'talk the talk' to be respected. I mean how many kids do you see in the city, that blow all their money on ridiculous silver chains and fubu crap to look the look? Then if you have a bunch of innercity kids walking around in a year long thug halloween costume, it then further perpetrates the fear of black people by white people, because they see these 'thugs' walking around. Especially with the lines being blurred between hip-hop culture and the NBA, its even worse. Think about it, many inner city kids think the only way out is basketball or rapping. and now you have players like Allen Iverson furthering the thug stereotype. lets not even get into his ridiculous garthbrooks/chris gaines/allen iverson/Jewelz thing.. And on an interesting side note, most of those rappers don't even own any of that stuff you see. The record companies think they need the jewelry and cars to keep up the image, so they loan them to them. "Philly: It's Camden - with a bell." - Jim Norton

As long as stupid white suburban kids see the blacks guys in the videos getting with all the "ho's" and "bitches" they think they too can get them if they act "black" It goes along the running gag that black people create these fashion fads just so white kids look stupid. The true blacks see this shit on mtv and laugh, cause they know it strictly for Carson Daly and the rest of the feable minded herd that thinks he some sort of "cool guy" At least that's what I think... Hanger-On Registered: Sep. 01 | I agree that it is not right for rap artists to portray a life of crime of 'thug' life. By the same token, you have to realize that the reason these vids are so popular and will continue to be made is because it is what the majority of people want to see. If it wasn't it would not be on TV. And to tell you the truth I would not be surprised if most of these people ARE upper-middle class white teenagers. They WANT to see it, they WANT to listen to it. It is like anything else, it will evolve with society. There are rap groups :Roots, Tribe, De La Soul, Outkast, who don't try to prtray a life of crime and they do have a positive message. They are all awesome musicians and they are very popular among musicians and a lot of jazz artists, but your average teenager wants more violence than that. They want DMX flailing around like a "monkey" (and I'm not calling blacks monkeys but he is obviously acting like one). What about bands like Slipknot, Dry Kill Logic, Nothingface, these are sick bands and they sing of violence and chaos and anger; are they wrong in expressing their beliefs? At their last concert, Slipknot had 43 broken ribs among the members of the band, THE MEMBERS!!!!! They beat the shit out of each other on stage, and it's f-ing great. I kinda lost track of my point but I'm just sayin that it's society that WANTS to hear and see thin, and as long as they do, MTV, Def Jam, and Roadrunner will continue to make it! They have to, it is a smart business move.
