The problem with Syndi-Simpsons is that they replay some of the newer episods over and over and over again and hardly show some of the best episodes like Homer's BS Quarter

It's funny you should bring this up. I have a couple of friends that are die hard Simpsons fans and refuse to acknowledge ANY humor in The Family Guy. It seems that they watched the first 1 or 2 episodes and made judgement. You have to admit, if you are used to the Simpsons's humor, The Family Guy takes a while to soak in. It's like you have to build up a tolerance to the constant onslaught of wise-cracks, sarcasm and irony or your brain will OD. But once you are a full blown addict... it's one hell of a ride.

I like both shows equally. The humor and style are so different that I can't make a serious comparison. It would be like comparing Pink Floyd to Aerosmith... or Oscar Wilde to Stephen King. Each is VERY popular and does what they do well in there genre... just with a different approach.

I have to admit that I can watch the Simpsons high and still have a blast. I can't watch The Family Guy stoned.. too much of a mind f*#@.

As for The Hitchhiker's... I mean Futurama... "good filler"!

Wow, what a question. Since it has been slow at work I have been downloading lots of episodes of each, and I have seen most every Simpsons episode, and I love them, I am more of a fan or Family Guy and Futurama. Futurama has some great characters and really funny jokes. It is Simpsons type humor, so its kinda predictable at some points but real funny. FG is very wild and really funny. I seem to be loving Peter more and more, like when Death was cooped up in his house and he went out drinking and kept trying to kill himself, but didnt die, that was priceless.

So I guess my order would be FG, Futurama, and Simpsons.

Currently both of my positions are full - Dawgs47 and ashleyisthegoer are being shown the ways.
If anyone has a problem with them, let me know.

The Family Guy is on top as of now. Overall, I give the nod to the Simpsons. They have been my favorite show by far for the past 10 years. But the question is current, so Family Guy. That show is too goddamn funny. Brian the dog going to rehab? brilliant. Also I love when they are watching tv on the Family Guy and its a spoof on some other show, like Burt & Ernie sleeping together and trowing bottles around.
Futurama I enjoy, but I don't put the effort in to figure out when its on. It had a shitty time slot and I have not caught an episode in a while. Its relative though, Future is not as tight as the Simpsons or Family Guy, but it is better than 95% of the shit in prime time.

Family Guy is the best. Since Episode One, it's been a great show. I laugh out loud at least once during every episode.

Family Guy is tops in my book. Followed closely by the Simpsons. Futurama i always tend to miss just because i usually don't remember that there's anything good on TV on sundays until about 8:09 when i realize simpsons has already started.

I'm a long time sipsons fan, as are many of you are from what I'm reading, so you'll know what I mean when I say this past season was like watching a half hour worth of miscarriages every sunday. The humor is completely gone. Now they go for the obvious jokes, and the gimmicks, like "worst (insert noun here) ever" every time comic guy shows up. At least they recognized that by throwing in ozmodiar, who showed up in either the 138th anniversary special or the spinoff special, basically riping off that alien character from the flinstones that they came up with after running out of ideas. It really just makes me sad now. I'd rather just watch 2 episodes of "full house" for every 1 simpsons i've seen this season. And not just for the olsens.
That being said, my favorite right now would be futurama. This season has really turned me around. All the episodes haven't been comic gold, but the good ones are f-ing hilarious, and it reminds me of a time when the simpsons were funny.
Family guy is a close second. They're episodes aren't as tight as futurama, but in every episode thier's something incredibly random that makes me laugh out loud. My favorites were the superman 2 referance a couple weeks ago, and the cool-aid guy last season. What I'm really waiting for is the Tick (premiers thu. nov. 1st at 8:30). I know it's not animated but anybody who's seen one of the commercials that were out last spring know how funny it looks, and the cartoon was my second favorite series of all time, next to the simpsons.

P.S. I am not a crackpot.

Yeah, The Tick looks good. Putty (know idea what his name is) from Seinfeld is the Tick, right? The original NEC Tick Comics were genius. The characters and villians were awesome, Chairface, Paul the Samuari, and all the Ninjas! I hope its a good series, it has great material to work with.

My personal favorite issue is the one on with the superman rip-off. That is a classic. so many great lines, including:

"you know what they say, spare the rod and kick the shrubbary around"-tick on getting to the point

"A gigantic well-dressed digestive enzyme? I am in the belly of a whale!!" -Tick after meeting Clark Oppenheimer in a subway tunnel.

and my favorite:
"I'm pretty sure 'fhrblig' isn't a seven letter word for 'flume', and besides there are only 2 words, 'fhrblig' and 'pabst'." -perry white character on ticks crossword puzzle making skills

P.S. I am not a crackpot.

Also, Patrick Warburton, who is going to play the Tick, does the voice of Joe Swanson on "Family Guy", thats the wheel chair guy, right?

If you take the Simpsons as a whole--and particularly the middle seasons, it still takes number 1 for me. But since we're talking about the current situation, Family Guy is the best thing on tv. The Simpsons' current episodes take a distant second, with Futurama quickly catching up.

HOMR was when they realize Homer's stupidity was the crayon in his brain.

quote:

on a side topic, if anyone else here as read stuff at a.t.s, you know some of the many reference on each show, side jokes, and neurotics who feel the need to record them all.
A lot of the references they say probably aren't references at all. they just look to far into the episode.

Patrick Wharbuton is playing the Tick--also in NewsRadio and also in Big Trouble where in the ads, he's being promoted more than Tim Allen

Family Guy is undoubtedly one of the funniest shows ever because it brings the wit and format of "The Simpsons" and combines it with edginess of "Married... With Children" (which is the funniest show of all time, in my dumb ass opinion). The Simpsons is the legendary, classic show it always has been but I think the show's reputation is a little off considering the first 2 seasons. I can watch any Family Guy episode and laugh my balls off but the first 2 seasons of the Simpsons (with shoddy animation, uneasy voices, and unfunny jokes) are unwatchable. Futurama is pretty good, but I haven't seen enough of it to compare with the others.

I gotta say, I've only seen Family Guy a couple times (probably two years ago) and hated it. But I will have to make an effort to catch it sometime...

Futurama is hilarious, Simpsons is no longer must-see, but hey, it's the Simpsons. And the best animated show of all time? That's right, THE CRITIC. Rates extremely high on the LPE and ROFLPM indices... Discuss :)

Gotta agree, the Critic kicked ass. Definately one of the best shows on tv, ever. I don't think there's ever been a better character then Jay Sherman's dad.
