Psychopath Registered: Aug. 01 | Ok...since I have all you weekend home warriors in one place...I have a question. Does anyone know anything about ceiling fans? I have heard they are easy to install especially if you have an existing light already in place. I have a light in my loft that I want to replace with a ceiling fan... Is it something I can do without electrocuting myself??

Psychopath Registered: Mar. 01 | quote: Kindred, I installed my own ceiling fan, and it was actually quite easy. It's a Hampton Bay. You just have to make sure that wherever you're screwing the bracket into can support the weight. And that you can lift the fan yourself. You don't have to hold it at the ceiling, it hangs on a bracket while you tighten it in, but you do have to get it up there! Took me about 1/2 an hour, I'd say. But yes, other than that, hanging a ceiling fan really isn't too difficult. White to white, black to black, green to ground and that's all she wrote. Slash, what's wrong with the tool time chick? Don't you remember the one after Pam Anderson left, Debbe Dunning.....totally hot!! No meanie amazon, but who is? I also just bought a leaf blower/vac from the HD. Other than that, I usually only buy lumber there for various projects. I'm a Craftsman guy...go ahead and laugh, but they have a lifetime warranty and I can walk into any Sears and replace them if they break. Comes in handy when you shear a 12" breaker bar. No Lowe's near me yet, so I can't check them out. E-Mail Me 09.11.01 - To those who we'll never see again - you'll be in our hearts forever. To those who did this.....buh bye motherfuckers.

Agreeing with Maynard, support your local hardware store. You may pay an extra buck, but the advice you get from them will be well worth it. Or just wing it, connect them wires with aluminum foil. I'm not saying they're the best, but they are reliable. Kindred - I gotta go with Metal. Killing the circuit breaker first is a very good idea unless you're really desperate for that perm you've always wanted. Ceiling fans aren't that hard to install. It just takes patience. I put in a 220V dryer line last night. Now that's some scary shit to eff around with 220V. 110 will just give you a little tingle. 220 will burn the hair off your ass if you screw up.

O&A Board Regular Registered: Feb. 01 | I used my new vac blower yesterday outside and it rocks - mulching is cool..... Actually, my next 2 purchases, besides plywood and drywall are a good miter saw and a sawzall. I am replacing 2 ceilings and a few walls (drywall only) but to take them off, re-frame some stuff-because the guy who sold the house to me prided himself on being a craftsman, and he did lots of nice stuff, but I am convinced he didnt own either a level or a sqaure. I also have to replace the steps going to the basement, and I think I have to get someone to do that for me, I am a bit clueless with that. I also cant wait to finish these ceilings because I plan on putting can lights up there, which will allow me to re-wire most of the house, all the zones are messed up. An outlet in the kitchen is also connected to the second bedroom and the basement lights. Argh. Too much to do, but I have lots of time. IM me Or E-Mail Me

Psychopath Registered: Aug. 01 | Thanks, guys. I didn't think about the weight of the fan being a factor, I will definitely get an extra pair of hands to help. My main concern was the wiring, as long as it's color coded and the circuit breaker is off, I shouldn't screw it up too bad. And if all else fails, I'll get that new perm I've been wanting.. :)

Psychopath Registered: May. 01 | I have a question...how can you people afford to buy a house AND make major repairs? I bought my house last June and thank God it hasn't needed anything but a roof (knock wood). I'm having a hard enough time finding money for the little things. Anybody have any pointers, other than running up a huge credit card balance? Graduated from the now-closed Brokenjaw school for newbies

O&A Board Regular Registered: Feb. 01 | Thats the problem I have. Credit cards are how I have been doing a lot this month. I am trying not to, but sometimes when I get to checkout it seems to be way more than I thought it would be, but its okay. Also, my savings are totally depleted, but it'll grow back eventually.
