I got most of these when the online retailers were practically giving them away. Those days are long gone, but I still manage to find a bargain here and there online. The fiance' and I went out and bought a new Sony 36" XBR today, so I have another reason to pick up even MORE movies :)

Today's purchases...

Eminem E
X-Men
The Net
Taxi Driver
WarGames

I've seen them all except Eminem. E is supposed to be all of his videos uncensored, and director's cuts. WarGames, The Net, and Taxi Driver were all under $15, so I figured what the fuck? X-Men, well it was just a kick ass movie. :)

For those who are trying to build their collections, Best Buy is one of the better places to go. They have pretty much the biggest selection and their prices are excellent. Many times I'll have a couple of movies that I am ready to pay for, just to find out that all the DVD's are 10% off. They also have a bunch of older stuff priced under $10..... most of them are pretty lame, but every so often they'll have a diamond in the rough.

The wholesale clubs (Sam's, BJ's etc...) usually have real good prices too, but not quite as good of a selection.

I know that Blockbuster and the larger Video stores sell the previously viewed ones, and you can get a good deal. Unlike VHS there really is no degradation in quality so your getting a decent product. Only problem is that many renters could care less about the discs, so sratches are a big issue. I have one or two that I bought PV, had to take one back because of severe scratching, but the replacement was in excellent condition. Either way, you are rolling the dice.

Still one spot open!

Best Buy may have a really good selection, but their
prices are NOT reasonable. It's like 30 bucks for most of
their selections. Screw that. Try Border's Books if there
is one around you. They have a large selection and
reasonable prices.

No way, Kid. It may be a black, pretentious, beat poet
thang, but not a black thang. That movie was quite
possibly the most pretentious piece of ass fluff I have
ever seen. I like Nia Long, and I like Larenz Tate, but I
HATE beat poetry. Or Spoken Word, or whatever you
want to call it. I just thought the reasoning behind the
movie was, "Let's throw a bunch of Suburban/Urban
black folks into the coffehouse/Spoken Word thing and
drama/hilarity will ensue!"

I'm not a big fan of Best Buy or most other retail stores as far as DVDs go. Most of their prices are in the $20-$25 range, unless its a new release on sale, or a really old movie that they're trying to get rid of. I have had a LOT of luck ordering online - mainly from Amazon, to be honest, but like the regular retail stores, they don't have ALL bargains - just more than you might find if you walked into your local Best Buy or something. And not to plug another web site, but this site is a great place to find basically any DVD you want, sorted by price (excluding any shipping, but it does list the shipping charge next to the e-tailer's price). I've used it several times, and gotten many a good deal that way.

I did not mean to imply that Best Buy was the cheapest place to go. The reason I say that Best Buy is reasonable is because I have never really run into a DVD that was cheaper somewhere else, unless it was on sale. Combine that with the fact that they do have the largest selection of any of the major retailers and it makes it one of the better places to go. I have never really tried Border's but I will definately check them out now.

If you are not in a hurry, online is a good way to go too, but I am a horrible impulse purchaser. All those stupid useless knick knacks on the counter at you local convenience store were put there for chuckleheads like me. :)

Good catch GOP, thats what I get for not checking the link - its fixed now :)

Sorry Slackjaw, I should've mentioned that online purchasing is for patient people - I'm usually like that, unless theres a movie I just have to have right away or something. But to me, the $5 or even $10 (depending on the number of movies I buy) savings is enough of a reason to wait rather than run out to the Best Buy or something. I'm not knocking them, I actually find Best Buy to be one of the better retailers in electronics, etc.

I didn't include my Pron DVD's, mainly because I only have 4, but what the hell :

Kelly the Co-ed - 5+
Kelly the Co-ed 2 - 5+
Comeback (Christy Canyon) - 5+
Lesbians in Leather - 5+

(Did you really expect to see anything less than a 5+ rating for PORNO? LOL)

Why don't I have many porn DVD's? mainly becuase I borrow or I download enough from the net - there is so much on the net that theres really no need to go out and spend money on it - but there are exceptions hehehe :)

Oh yea...Transformers: The Movie on DVD....GREAT!!!

the thing is, they edited the original movie for the DVD..they kinda took out some language, some death sceans, and they dumbed it down for kids. The key is to get the "Special Collecters Edition" DVD, which is essencially the original movie, wilth all the good dying and cursing. Enjoy!

Unicron, not ALL spaghetti westerns are good, but all
Clint Eastwood spaghetti westerns are. Good, Bad, and
Ugly was the fucking BEST. Fistful and Few More were
almost as good. As Westerns go, if you liked Unforgiven,
see an old flick called High Noon, starring Gary Cooper.
Great flick for its day and it still stands up.

The great thing about older movies on DVD is the quality restoration. It is safe to say that most of us never saw a movie likr "the Good the Bad and the Ugly" in the theater, most likely have rented it or seen it on cable. When you see the DVD, the picture quality is unbelievably better, not to mention that with widescreen you are seeing it as it was intended to be seen. Some of the great landscape shots are amazing. The soundtrack is also much clearer than on taped version you might rent or buy.

Porky's, a classic comedy is another "older" movie I have, and again, the quality restoration is just excellent. I saw that one in the store on sale for $15 and just had to have it..... one of my favorite "spank" movies when I was 12 or 13. :)
