A month or so ago there was a thread that contained writings and poetry from our board members :)
We have lots of talent here! :)

| The thing about Shlamadamadingdong is that Sixth Sense might be his only home run and I didn't even like that. The cool thing is to make a real low budget, real small independent film done good and then Hollywood will be after you for a movie and possibly a TV series like the guys who did Blair Witch.
If I were to make a movie or TV show or book series like that I would honestly prefer a very small underground following than giant flash. To me it would be more satisfying to walk down the street and hear one guy say to another "Did you see that movie?" than to have my face and name all over Entertainment Tonight.

| Ikeaboy,
True, making an independent film would be cool, but again reality would settle in for me. I don't have the balls of Kevin Smith to go out there and mortgage up $25,000 on credit cards to make Clerks. God bless him and others for doing that kind of thing.
My bigger point was that when you have a legitimate day job that pays the rent and you're a little scared about ditching it all for some grand dream that has little chance of coming true, I think that the odds are better if you just WRITE a screenplay that ends up getting optioned.
That's why I point to M. Knight. The studios basically started a bidding war for The Sixth Sense because the script was good. If a bidding war breaks out then you're in control.
Sometimes, and again Smith is an excellent example, the money that studios give you to make your second movie doesn't mean that second movie is going to be fulfilling to you or your audience (Mallrats vs. Clerks, Mallrats vs. Chasing Amy, Mallrats vs. anything Kevin Smith will ever do again :))
I dunno, I'm just thinking if you're trying to write and also work at the same time, go for that screenplay. It would be cool if you could go out and make it, especially with the digital technology that's out there now, I mean yes, you can do good stuff and all, that's fine. I guess I'm just telling you what I would do, but again, everyone's situation is different.

| There's a huge following of Mallrats! Sure at first critics didn't like it as much as Clerks but if you ever play Kevin Smith trivia, Mallrats is the one most people know.
I totally get and understzand your point. Let me revert to a movie:
quote:
"Teaching pays the rent until I finish my novel"
"How long have you been working on it?"
"Four and a half years"

The way I look at it, you have nothing to lose by giving it a shot. If you get what you have in your head onto the screen or into a book. Their would be a lot entertained people. We shall see. Bong Water please get in the coffin sir!!!
