Theres no way to add AGP to your board, you'd either need to get a PCI vid card or a new MoBo with an AGP slot. Amen to the Compaq FU - I wouldn't buy a Compaq with someone else's money. O&A Board Regular Registered: Jan. 01 | Try installing the newest drivers for your vid card off the ATI site - unfortunately, ATI isn't known for its driver support. Also, check for the latest game patches available, as software companies generally release patches for their games to keep up with/take advantage of newer video card technologies. O&A Board Regular Registered: Jan. 01 | quote: Painter, I don't know if you've done anything yet, but here's a little advice. Compaq is notorious for building their systems with proprietary hardware which is incompatible with other systems. So in many cases, swapping out the motherboard in a Compaq system is not an option. A new motherboard may not even fit in the case if it's not a standard ATX case. And even if it does fit, you may run into problems like incompatible RAM, different power supply connections, etc. My suggestion would be to pick up a good PCI vid card. quote: CrackSweat, if you could post a little more info about your system I might be able to help you. I got a G-force 2 PCI card. It works better than what I had, but it's still not what I wanted. ROOKIE, I have an HP 600 mhz, 384 RAM,pentium 3 /win98, Had a nividia TNT 8meg card, then put in the Radeon 64 DDR "He who farts in church, sits in his own pue"

O&A Board Regular Registered: Jan. 01 | CrackSweat, did you uninstall the NVidia drivers before you removed the old card? NVidia drivers are known to stick around if you don't remove them from the system completely when changing cards. What you should have done (maybe you did depending on what the instructions for the new card said) is either:
If you didn't do either of these things, you can try this:
Any references to the old NVidia card you find while booted in safe mode are commonly referred to as "ghost drivers" and can definitely cause these types of problems. One more thing, after performing the above steps you might want to remove and reinstall the new ATI drivers again just to get a clean start. I used to post on OpieAnthony.com but I lost my bookmark and now I can't find the site.

O&A Board Regular Registered: Jan. 01 | To add to Rookie's excellent advice (though this may be a non-issue, but it wouldn't hurt), be sure to disable any extraneous programs that might be running in the taskbar or background when uninstalling/reinstalling the cards and drivers, ESPECIALLY any virus scanner you might be using. Basically the only thing you should see running in your taskbar (lower righthand corner) when doing these things is the MS volume control and your virus scanner crossed out. Again, this may be a non-issue, but it's always good practive to disable this stuff when doing any kind of an install/uninstall of hardware or software. You can reach me through AIM or email. Psychopath Registered: Oct. 00 | Rookie/ goatweed, I thought I might have removed the nividia driver, and I usually always shutdown all programs first, but it sounds like great advise, and I will try everything you both suggest from scratch again, just to make sure. I'm at work right now, as soon as I get home, I will try it, I'm dying to play my N4 and superbike. Thanks for the help ;) "He who farts in church, sits in his own pue"

O&A Board Regular Registered: Jan. 01 | Another thing you can do (but I would consider this an absolute last option) is to back-up anything you want to keep (like porno clips, saved games, anything that you can't reinstall and want to keep) and just reformat your HD and reinstall Windows. The only problem is this will remove EVERYTHING and start you with a clean slate. You would probably have no problems installing the ATI board. Most people don't want to do this, but if you're adept and know what to do, it's not all that hard - it's just a pain in the ass to reinstall everything and update Windows endlessly (esp. Win98). Good luck, let us know how it goes. You can reach me through AIM or email. Don't be shy, drop a line and say Hi!

O&A Board Regular Registered: Jan. 01 | I've reformated several computers, and there always seems to be something that I forgot to backup - some setting I customized and forgot about, some hard to find system file, etc. Don't get me wrong; re-formatting is usually the way to go if you are careful. I love to beta test, and after a while re-formatting is the only way to get rid of extraneous crap - you just need to remember all of the tweaking you did.
