WWF Excess 2-9-02 the "from the vault classic match" was from Wrestlemania 7... Ultimate Warrior versus Randy Savage... Coincidence? Probably but thought it was worth mentioning.

Yeah I am one of the 5 people who actually watch the show.

I know HBK had a long career, but it could have been way longer, I mean he isn't too old for wrestling he can still attempt a comeback, and by the way I think Foley took a little more abuse than HBK. Look, Taker is 70 and he's still wrestling...

I feel that the NWO brings no positives to the WWF. Even ESPN, in an article comparing figure skating to the WWF, mentions that the NWO signals a desperate attempt by Vince to spike the ratings. I believe this also.

Vince need to seriuosly look back on the angles that have brought in the ratings, and study them, not just try to bring the magic back by resurfacing the angle. DX was done many times, and never as good as the first time. THe angles that work? Austin/Vince. Austin and Vince. DX. McMahon-Helmsey Regime. The Rock face turn. Angle/Benoit. Jericho/Trips. Triple H's heel turn.

PPV's are the stage for great matches, and sometimes, the flukes end up being the best matches. The Hardys/Canadian Blondes first ladder match made them all, out of a thrown together storyline. But the greatest matches come from great subplot. NAsh and Hall bring none of that. They are jokes. No wrestling ability, victims of too many stupid gimmicks. ALl the are known for is the NWO, and this leaves them as a liability when new angles need to be brought in. They wait in the back for the NWO angle to resurface, and then come in and roon it again. The WWF, for a few years now, has been known to at least get good angles going with wrestler that were known for previous greats. Austin was known forever for his hatred of Vince, and then is able to create a great new angle with the WCW invasion by turning bad and siding against the WWF. The Rock had a great storyling with TRiple H for years, ongoing to this day, yet he has been able to create other awesome angles, such as the fued with ANgle, Austin, Jericho. Triple H is prob the best for making new angles work. From DX to his heel turn to his fued with Mick Foley to the Helmsley Regime to his partnership with Austin.

Nash and Hall have no chance to do this, and I don't see Triple H siding with them onscreen or off. Triple H has risen so far above them all, that he needs no one to elevate him but a good fellow wrestler. Hall and Nash will do whatever they can to get top wrestlers to put them over, and I don;t see anyone doing that, because everyone knows they are riding the coatails of a gimmick that died when I was still in high school.

Fo shizza my nizza, is it ok to say nizza?

a well thought out, coherent and insiteful piece of writing there Jays...I disagree with you, but you spoke well.

I think that yes Hall and Nash are not capable of putting out a **** match, but they do bring viewers to the tv. People know who they are, and that is what Vince is doing right now. Sure the wrestling purists who want to see true wrestling on television are screaming for benoit to return, for regal to get a program with a person who can wrestle (sorry edge) for angle to have more real matches...but that isn't what sells tickets, it isn't what makes people turn on raw or smackdown, it isn't what makes people buy a ppv. Sports Entertainment does that, people like the Rock, Undertaker, Austin, HHH. Granted, they are great entertainers, and have wrestling ability, but when your best moves are punch/kick/finisher, it isn't much of a WRESTLING match. Hall and Nash fall into this category, as does Hogan...however Hogan will bring back all of the old time fans, those that left the sport in the late 80's early 90's due to whatever reason. They will come back to see how he has aged, to see the "Imortal Hulk Hogan". Vince isn't stupid, he knows that this isn't the fix that the promotion needs, but it may just patch the hole that is there long enough for him to get a long term plan in place so that they can build the fan base back up, and produce quality programming again...

but thats just my take on it

If the Warrior does come back it will only be for a Month or two. Remember last time he came back to the WWF, he beat HHH really fast, had his own comic book and wrestling school thing, and then he just suddenly disappeared after a couple of months.

Anyway, wrestling sucks now. It was good back in the day when they had that old wrestle mania music. Now the scripts are just so unbelievably stupid. Yet, I can't get myself to stop watching it.

My take: Warrior has absolutely no chance of returning. Count up all his previous matches and pay per views, and his actual popularity/ angles only took about two years. He's like Sid in that way: He'll show up, get a lot of hype, squash people for a while, then just kinda dissappear. He has No Ability Whatsoever. He is the only wrestler worse than Billy Gunn and Ken Shamrock on the mic, and quite seriously does not know any moves.
The NWO on the other hand, do stand a chance of being successful. As another person posted earlier, Scott Hall's ladder matches are some of the best matches of all time. He's not exactly technically sound, but he can certainly perform on the Rock or Undertaker's level if you take away the crackpipe long enough.
Kevin Nash, plain and simple, is an asshole. Listen to candid interviews with quality wrestlers like Benoit and Jericho. He really is a cancer to the locker room. People are afraid of his return, and rightfully so. The last time he was in the WWF he hogged the belt for over a year.
Next is Hogan. Watch some of his old matches so you can realize just how dumb we all were as kids.I remember freaking out whenever he Hulked up, and I'm honestly embarrased. Jesus, Road Dogg has a larger move repertroirre.
So what's the positive here? Non wrestling capacity. Let them destroy important matches, beat people down for Vince, and only wrestle the occasional pay per view. Otherwise, people are gonna get bored quick.

I'd like Steiner & Jarrett to come back. Jarrett is good both on the mike and in the ring, and Steiner has passed a physical, so he could return to the ring at any time. Sure, he's still got health problems, but his last run in WCW proved that he can be presented as a MONSTER heel and get over because of it.

Ultimate Warrior won't return again, because he sucks in the ring, he's always sucked in the ring, and the only good match that he ever had was against Randy Savage at WM 7, but that was when Savage was still good enough to carry anyone to a passable match. Besides, he's a nutjob. And you may think that's a good thing, in the ring, but if you're looney backstage as well, that's not good for business.

Savage is washed up now, and the only way I see them bringing him back is if it's through the power of Hogan, but even their relationship is wishy / washy. It seems that Randy feels Hogan is his best friend or his worst enemy, depending upon what side of the bed he woke up on.

And HBK? I suppose I'm he only one who wants to never see him again.

Well, not the only one, but certainly you have to admit you're in a minority.

My reason for preferring Shawn to stay away is simply because I'd hate to see him as one of those wrestlers who just couldn't walk away and let fans remember them in their prime. I'd rather remember the Shawn that had tremendous matches all throughout the 90s, instead of being subjected to an older, balder, slower shadow of the star he once was.

Piper couldn't walk away, Savage couldn't stay away, and Hogan, despite never being that great, has to constantly remind us that he will always be around. I hope Michaels is the one guy who can stay out, so he can have a normal family life and fans can always remember him in his prime.

I remember another gentle visitor from the heavens. Who came to earth... and then died... only to be brought back to life again. And his name was: E.T., the extra-terrestrial. I love that little guy.
