O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | Oh no... I Knew it would be bad for me to read the threads in MUSIC. This is gonna take a while so, grab yourself a snack & something to drink, sit back & allow me to reflect upon the hundreds...maybe even, over a thousand shows I've paid for, snuck into, or worked at in my life. Keep in mind that over this same amount of time I managed to try a variety of mind altering substances, so some of the dates may be off, but what'd you expect from a fuggin moron. Blue Oyster Cult & Aldo Nova 1982(?) the old convention hall in Asbury Park, NJ. Aldo Nova had his big hit Fantasy which he opened & closed with. Yup, he played it 2 (two...) times. BOC were great. Godzilla, Veterans of 1000 Psychic Wars, Hot Rails To Hell... they rocked. KISS & The PLASMATICS I'm guessing like 1982 or '83 in Lakeland, FL. Wendy O'Williams came out on stage wearing a whipcream shirt. By the end of the fisrt song, her HUGE TITS were just hanging out for all to see (with the exception of electrical tape on her nipples). She hacked up guitars and other things with an axe & a chainsaw, then blew up a car on the stage with a stick of dynamite. It was amazing. When KISS finally hit the stage I was blown away even more so. (Even with Vinnie Vincent on guitar) Dead Kennedys 1984 @ The Showplace in Dover, NJ. At the time this place was "THE" place for punk & metal bands to play in North Jersey...& many of them I did see there; Black Flag, Circle Jerks, Gang Green, Slayer, Metallica...yes, even Metallica...actually the first show Kirk Hammett ever played with them was at the ShowPlace. The Place is still there but has been transformed into a recording studio, which is connected to a GO-GO Bar of the same name. Ironically, the Go-Go part is all that remains the same. Slayer & DRI @ L'Amour The Rock Capitol of Brooklyn 1985 or '86. The fastest heaviest crunchingest mostest insane show I've ever witnessed. It was the day after a huge snowstorm & the bands were delayed getting there. DRI opened the show... opened, nah... BLEW THE FUCKING PLACE UP!!! is more like it. DRI played like 60 song in 45 minutes...each faster & heavier than the last...all the while Slayer are thrashing around in the MOSH PIT. It truly was insanity. After what only seemed like a 10 minute break SLAYER took the stage while the light were still up & the singer ask the crowd this question; "So you like it fast, huh?..." And Slayer raged faster & heavier than any band I've seen to date. Granted there are many bands which have adopted & adapted Slayer's sound, but I dare a one of them to match Slayer in their prime. Another great Slayer show I attended was made into a video. "The Ultimate Revenge" with Venom & Exodus which was filmed at Studio 54. Beastie Boys, Public Enemy & Murphy's Law @ The Capitol Theatre in Passaic, NJ 1986(or'87?). This landmark building was condemned & demolished some years ago, but my memory remains. Murphy's Law were (& still are) one of the premiere NYC Party/Punk bands w/ the funky ska sound. Public Enemy back in tha Day... FLaVa FLaV, Chuck D, Terminator X, Prof. Griff & the S1W's... True Pioneer's of Hip-Hop. And let us not forget the B-E-A-S-T-I-E BOYS... a punk band that expeimented with rap, caught the attention of Madonna (& toured with her) then put out a tounge-in-cheek rap record about adolescent hang-ups & hard-ons and subsequently became one of todays bigger artists in todays "sink or swim" musical enviroment... Anyways, back to the concert... The B-Boys were taping that night for a home video & played for almost two hours off of their one (at the time) album 3 or 4 songs at least twice & some 3 or 4 times. It was funny as hell 'cuz they were still in there drunken mess, party 'til you puke mode. They must have sprayed the audience with at least a keg of beer. OK....that's enough for now...I'll continue later... ok... I'm back for more... Cypress Hill @ the WetLands in NYC (1989?) I think this was Cypress's first NYC appearence. They only had one album out at the time. They only played for like 40 minutes, but then they started bringing up "Special Guests" like Treach from Naughty By Nature & a bunch of others and busted out some FreeStyle...That shit was "off da hook, yo!" LOLLAPALOOZA The first year (1991?) @ Waterloo Village in Stanhope, NJ with Janes Addiction, Ice T w/ Body Count, Rage Against the Machine & many, many more.. & I believe TOOL played on the side stage. Anyway, the best part of the whole show was I got to see it twice... The first show was on Sunday & the 2nd was on Tuesday. Well, during the first show a friend & I met up with Ernie C. (guitarist for Body Count) & managed to score some "backstage passes"... hung out there during & after the show, rubbing elbows with all kinds of celebrities & drinking "their" beer. After the show, my friend & I were invited to go back to the Hotel that some of the bands were staying at for some post-post-show partying. I'll never forget the Drummer of Body Count(who's name escapes me at the moment) playing their song "There Goes The Neighborhood" on the Ppiano in the lobby. After closing the hotel bar & getting some fresh "$YNDICATE" gear from Ernie C. we were told about a "secret show" that Body Count were doing at CB-GB's on Monday. Ernie hooked us up again. My buddy couldn't go, so I was forced to go with another friend of mine who was a Stripper (poor me). BC's show at CB's was fuggin nuts & I got to meet & hang out with Ice-T after the show & got put on the VIP list for Tuesday's Lollapalooza show. I managed to accquire a bootleg video of the CB-GB's show like 3 years later as a partial reminder of this event. ok... that now leaves me with only 10 more years of shows to mentally scroll through before i post to this thread again. ------------------------------------------------------ ok, 1st Sgt.Fil's thread about Carnivore just jogged a memory. Carnivore, Cro-Mags & Bio-Hazard @ L'Amour in B'klyn, October 6th 1990. I remeber the date because I have the ticket stub on my bulliten board to look at everyday...just to remind me I'm a man. That had to have been the most anger-filled, knuckle-swingin', fist flyin', body-bashin', bone crunchin', testonerone pumped night of mayhem I ever experienced. All three bands were fucking amazing... Ok, I gotta go blast some tunes now... be back later... --------------------------------------------------------- To look at my photo albums Visit this Website E-Mail Me or E-Mail Me Professional Slacker This message was edited by F N Moron on 3-24-01 @ 2:11 AM | ||||
