Back to top ....

Well, I thought rather than start a new thread about misc. baseball goings on, it might be good to post here.....

Well, 1st month closing down, and who would have thoughts both Pirates & Expos would lead divisions. I don't think Pirates have depth to last, but Expos may well stick around, much to MLB embarrassment. Good young pitching, a couple of stars - and Frank Robinson teaching them how to win.

I knew Lance Berkman was a good player, but I never considered him in Sosa class, even in Enron (or whatever they call it now).

Braves looking awful at times - they lost last night in a Maddux - Rick Helling matchup.

Which of these trends do you think will continue?

Just noticed this was pulled back up..

Pittsburgh's already starting to fade a bit, though I think they'll remain around .500 for a few more weeks before crashing. The bigger surprise to me is Cincinnati, at 16-9. It will be hysterical though once Griffey comes back and they find themselves right next to Milwaukee at the bottom of the division.

I think Montral is for real, they'll hang around in the East till the end..might end up being this year's version of the Phillies, but even that would be a great accomplishment for them. And though I hope I'm wrong, I just have the feeling Atlanta will be in the hunt, as usual..

Now I will very selectively pull out some quotes from my predictions post:
quote:

-Chicago's young pitching staff could slip them to 2nd or 3rd, but that offense with a healthy Thomas, plus Ordonez, Konerko, Lee, Durham and finally a leadoff hitter in Lofton, will carry them.
-Chavez will have a 35-100 season
-Beckett will have a great start but get hurt in May
-Philadelphia will be the big disappointment
-Berkman will put up MVP numbers
-Johnson will carry the load and keep them in it, but Helling, Anderson, and Stottlemyre won't
    -Cy Young: Randy Johnson, Ari
    Rookie: Sean Burroughs, SD

I think my mask of sanity              is about to slip

Well, if this is the thread for misc baseball happenings, I think it deserves to bought back up again just for the Seattle game yesterday.

Mike Cameron becomes the 13th player to hit 4 HR in a game, and Boone and Cameron go back-to-back twice in the same inning, the first time in MLB history that's ever happened.

That is pretty fuckin amazing.. I remember the last to hit 4 was Mark Whiten in 93 I think. He had 12 RBI in that game, and they played a double header so he ended up with something like 15 RBI for that day.

And once again I'll selectively pull out a quote from my predeictions:
quote:

Chicago's young pitching staff could slip them to 2nd or 3rd (in the division)

Think Cinncinatti regrets making the Ken Griffey Jr. trade? :-D

So far it's been an interesting year.

Its even better considering I had money on Seattle last night. I had that money in the bag before the Whitesox even came up to bat.

Midseason break, I figured "Let's see how we're doing in our predictions".

As far as I can tell, no one has all the division leaders. I was right (so far) on Dodgers and Ishii as NL rookie of year, but not much else.

some quick observations:
No one thought Soriano would be this good this fast, Derek Lowe has shown unexpectedly flourished in the rotation, and none of us thought the Mets would flounder the way they have.

FB was only one who thought Angels would be in there.

Diamond Dust would probably like to have this one back

2002 Crack Committee Objectives: (modified version)(You gotta try and believe....)
1.Hate the Braves with PASSION and extreme prejudice
1a. Try and go a week without having to punch a wall in frustration after watching the Mets play
2. 90 Wins and somehow get the Mets into playoffs this year
3. All 5 Starters have winning records this year
3a.Have team understand it is OK to get a hit with runners on base.
4. Mets win World Series (after divine intervention)
