O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | I remember watching that 3OT game and comparing Brodeur last year.... Martin is more technically sound then he used to be. He has focused more on positioning and following the play than relying on reflexes. In my mind, Dom is the best goalie ever. He has allowed a team of scraps become cup contenders every year, but he is losing something.... He is no longer creating new moves, no longer being an innovator. Hey, when I play, I emulate him. I don't give up, use my blocker, push gloves out to shooter's sticks, etc..... gosh... 8-0. That's disgusting, but still a shutout. O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | Next victim, Toronto! FINAL New Jersey 5, Carolina 1 RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) _ Patrik Elias and Sergei Brylin scored 1:21 apart in the first period and Randy McKay added two goals as the Devils beat the Carolina Hurricanes 5-1 to win the Eastern Conference quarterfinal series 4-2. The Devils, the top seed in the East, will face the Toronto Maple Leafs, who have been resting for several days after knocking off second-seeded Ottawa Senators in a four-game sweep. McKay, who had just 14 postseason goals in 104 games entering the series, scored his second of the game six minutes into the third. He had given the Devils a 3-1 lead with 2:03 left in the second period. Alexander Mogilny closed out the scoring with 5 1/2 minutes left. Bobby Holik added three assists and finished the series with team-high eight points. The loss dropped the Carolina franchise to 1-10 in 11 playoff series dating to 1980. The Hurricanes were just the 10th team in NHL history to force a Game 6 after falling behind 3-0 in a best-of-seven series. The last team to do so was the former Hartford Whalers,n ow the Hurricanes, in 1988 against Montreal. But Carolina was unable to hold down the top scoring team in the league during the regular season for a third straight game in front of a sellout crowd of 18,730 at the Entertainment and Sports Arena. Or ride goalie Arturs Irbe, who had stopped 32 and 37 shots to win Games 4 and 5. Irbe made a pad save on a shot from 30 feet by Petr Sykora, but Elias pounced on the rebound for a 1-0 lead with 5:30 left in the first. The Devils struck less than two minutes later as Mogilny made a crossing pass down low to Brylin, who had an open net to shoot at and he buried it to silence the home crowd. Martin Brodeur's bid for a third shutout in the series ended when David Tanabe blasted a power-play goal past his glove early in the second as the eighth-seeded Hurricanes rallied. Tanabe's goal came during a line change by the Devils, giving the fast-skating defenseman too much open ice. The goal also got the crowd back into the game. However, Carolina lost an opportunity to tie the score shortly after Tanabe's second goal of the series with a two-man advantage for 54 seconds. New Jersey's penalty killers didn't allow a shot on Brodeur during the major disadvantage midway through the period and McKay's goal hit off the stick of Carolina's Rob DiMaio to send the Hurricanes into the locker room down by two goals for the second straight period. The Devils Jumbotron features in game statistics and a live radio broadcast feed of the Devils playoff game. Check out the Devils Jumbotron during the next game. O&A Board Regular Registered: Dec. 00 | Even though I predicted Washington to beat Pittsburgh, I hope Pittsburgh closes out Washington to set up a New and what should be exciting series against Buffalo. Pittsburgh and Buffalo have never played in the Playoffs, at least in this latest era, and its a great contrast of styles. Throw in the fact, Washington vs. Buffalo, like it was in the 1998 East Finals, will be dull.

Hanger-On Registered: Mar. 01 | There is no need to panic about the Game 1, The dev's lost game last year and still won in six games. And last year Game 1 was in Toronto. They played flat last night. They should wake up, there better than that. Remember the philly series, even I counted them out. I smoke two joints in the morning. I smoke two joints at night I smoke two joints in the afternoon It makes me feel alright I smoke two joints in time of peace, and two in time of war I smoke two joints before I smoke two joints...... and then I smoke two more.

O&A Board Regular Registered: Dec. 00 | quote: I agree that Devils fans shouldnt panic over just one game. The Devils have proven over and over that they can win on the Road and are a better Road Playoff Team than Home Playoff team, so winning at the Air Canada Center shouldnt be a problem. I hope the NBA Visitors win a game at Air Canada Center but thats a different story. If the Devils lose tomorrow, then I might start to get a little worried if I was a Devils fan. But when you made the comparison about losing Game 1 last year in Toronto and tried to make it like that was worse,. its not. Losing Game 1 at Home is worse than Losing it on the road. However, the Devils should still be alright and win the series. But with all that said.... GO LEAFS!!

O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | Hey Gooch, good to see you post in the thread! Of course hockey is the greatest sport! Sabres revive chances (from Yahoo sports) The Penguins had an opportunity to put a stranglehold on their series, but instead the Sabres found new life. Buffalo continued the trend of visitors winning, running away with a 4-1 victory on Pittsburgh's home ice. The Penguins, who were without leading scorer Jaromir Jagr, had trouble mustering much of an attack against Sabres' goalie Dominik Hasek, and were outshot 30-20 by the Sabres. Nice comeback for the Sabres. The Avs lose Sakic for a bit, so that series should get interesting. Devils win Game 3 tonight 4-1. The "A" line gets involved and finally gets a goal in this one! LET'S GO DEVILS! O&A Board Regular Registered: Dec. 00 | Remember Sabre fans, the Penguins did the same thing last year. Last year in the 2nd Round they won the first 2 games in Philadelphia and then lost the next 4 games, including an Overtime Game in Game 3, and a 5 Overtime Game in Game 4. If the Sabres pull out Game 4 tomorrow, they will be back in business. Whoever wins Game 4 will win the Series.

Psychopath Registered: May. 01 | Tell me about it Whack Bag. I was drunk off my ass playing beer pong when the Leafs made their comeback on Saturday. I then had to settle down and watch that OT. Two in a row? In OT? Who would have thunk it? Keep em going boys. And did you see the Stars lose again. I am so happy with that one. I hate them with a passion. Go away Belfour. I'm with you Gooch. I want Avs/Devils in the finals. That way if the Devils don't get it at least Bourque will finally get his. But there's also this: there are over 5,000 men in this city, who know that being a policeman is an endless, glamourless, thankless job that's gotta be done. I know it, too, and I'm damn glad to be one of them."

This loss may have shot Toronto's hopes. I hope they come out with some fire on Thursday, but I think the Devils are destined to take this one in 5.

This one was a hit that Sean Hill of the Blues laid on Chris Dingman of the Lanche. Dingman got up after and almost fell down but one of teammates held him up. i have to say it was quite funny, lol.
