Peter - you are right, C-T got me little worked up yesterday, I'm sorry.

My feelings are that Israel was brought to being in a rather poor manner. Its 50 years later and there isn't much you can do about it now. That's fine. My problem is people like C-T that try to cover up any negative, anti-israeli press. No nation is perfect, expecially the US. But can't explain away some of the atrocities Israel commits, just like you can't do the same with the US.

And peter, you're right, complaining about american policies is actually very american, its what makes us free. My problem is people directing our nation that doesn't have our nation in its best interests.

Peter,
criticism and analysis of this country with the intent of making it better..is fine. my point is
that in a time like this...hearing "{INSERT ANY OTHER COUNTRY} First, America Second" from
people who I know live in this country and reap the benefits of it- is reprehensible. my comment
wasn't even aimed at you really- but to people like CT or anyone who wants to use their religion,
race or ethnicity as a valid reason to place foreign objectives OVER this country's. to echo john's
comment: criticism of america is actually very american...BUT I feel this criticism should be done
with the aim of improving our country- and should also be done at the right time! to me,
this is not the time for criticizing america.

can't we all just get along :)

Too happy for an FU thread.

I understand some of what CT is trying to say, but I feel it goes too far - even I can't defend most of it.

Maybe its time to kill this thread.

sorry to bring this back up, but i am not reaping anymmore benefits than anyone else on this board. just i too pay my taxes, and "buy american". but i don't believe that america is the "best country" in the world. i have found many faults in the american govt. there were many jews killed on sept 11, rescue workers, as well as people that just went to work. i have a problem paying my taxes, knowing that my money is going to the plo.
btw, pd, sword fish, not kosher! if you have any other questions, email me.

Given back? Israel has only supported America
because America really doesn't falter in
support. If America started shifting allegiances
and made a more neutral stand guess what would
happen. What has Israel given us? With those
billions of dollars of military aid Israel can
do things like this.

quote:

In a case that actually went to trial, and
therefore received considerable attention (in
Israel, that is), four soldiers of an elite unit
of the Givati Brigade were arrested and charged
with beating an inhabitant of the Jabaliya camp
to death on August 22. The case was first
reported in Ha'aretz a month later. After
children had thrown stones, twenty soldiers
broke into a home and began to beat the father
of one of the suspected stonethrowers, Hani
al-Shami. He was kicked and beaten with clubs
and weapons. Soldiers jumped on him from the bed
while he was lying on the floor, his head
bleeding from blows with clubs. His wife was
also beaten up by soldiers. An officer arrived,
found the severely wounded man bleeding heavily,
and ordered him taken to the Military
Administration offices, not to a hospital; that
is routine procedure. Later, the family was
informed that al-Shami was dead. Two soldiers
from the same unit said "it is true that we beat
them up and very strongly too, but it is better
to break bones than to shoot people," echoing
the Minister of Defense. "We have lost our human
image," they said.

am, i'm sorry to say, but the palestinians are equally as guilty of torturing humans. remember the lynching of 3 israeli soldiers that made a wrong turn last october? or the sniper that shot a 10 month old baby to death? or last week, 2 israeli tennagers made a wrong turn into an arab village, and they were chased into a house where they called the idf, who then called the palestinian police, and after more than 2 hours later, the teens again called the idf, who then came to find the house surrounded by more then 100 palestinians. and upon calling the palestinain police once the teens were rescued, the palestinain police said they were looking into it. not to mention the thousands of arabs that didn't believe in the plo that were tortured and killed in palestine, jordan, egypt, and lebenon. now i ask again, what have the palestinians ever given to the us?

Am I going to argue on you on Palestinian
atrocities? No but Israeli crimes can overcome
these easily. 20,000 civilians were killed in
the war with Lebanon. But then you would hear
the Prime Minister say that is wrong to kill
civilians. What have the Palestinians done for
us? I don't think that should be a consideration
in the decison of what is right and wrong.
Saddam Hussein did a lot for America in the 80s
if you remember.
