After careful inspection of the ring, I would like to take back my "can you even get a nice ring for 5k?" remark. Its a very nice ring.

Ha Ha Ha. All my "good investments" went with the first wife. Good for her, not me. The first ring I bought was 1.4 CT. Her second husband made a nice earring out of it, that he wore. The next ring I bought was .85 CT, smaller ring, and a better wife. If a woman just has to have a BIG ring, get rid of her. You'll be happier in the long run.

And when I buy a car I let the dealership tell me how much I should spend.

And it isn't such a good investment. It may go up in value, but it is "worth" what you can actually sell it for. And if you never plan on selling it, ie. stay married is it really an investment?
