Psychopath Registered: Mar. 01 | First of all, you're all sick..quote: You can defintitely find places, esp. in NJ or LI that serve the fake stuff. I worked in Friendly's, and I have to admit, I was a good employee. I threw out everything that hit the floor, and didn't recycle any bread. Truth be told, I think most of the stories in this thread were stolen from 20/20, Dateline, and World's Worst... the worst I saw at Friendly's were cooking of dropped frozen things. There's not anything there that's thawed ahead of time. Oh, btw, salt is a key ingredient in milkshakes and "Frosties." No sabotage there, X-Files-boy... Honestly, I don't buy most of these stories- urban legends. The Health Department uses undercover, as well as "scheduled", inspections. They can put you out of business in one shot. The risk is too great. Except for Taco Bell... they use Grade D Beef, right?! (NO, there's no such thing...) Oil's tasty.

O&A Board Regular Registered: Jan. 01 | Well I don't know about everyone else...I worked at Wendy's for 3 years and I saw these things happen! I believe that the people sharing these stories saw things like this happen as well...So as far as your "20/20" comment goes -- I'd say you're nieve... Here is another warning concerning Wendy's -- don't eat the chili you may be in for a huge nasty surprise :) I've adopted That Guy II...so be nice to him! Any problems let me know! :) "Hold fast to dreams, for if dreams die, life is a broken winged bird that cannot fly."

O&A Board Regular Registered: Dec. 00 | Hehehe...think you're safe buying candy from a candy store? My very first job was for Berkeley Sweet Shops in Seaside Heights...and man, could I think of some stories... On hot summer days when the candy apples have been sitting out all day, and their coating had dripped off by the end of the day-- they would just take them, wash them off and recoat them for the next day. If you dropped anything, pick it up...my bosses were such assholes (waste nothing) and we actually had a brush to get some of the floor dirt off...One time I drop a ten-layer tray of chocolate covered crackers in front of my boss and he made me put together the whole thing again and back into the case (it had rained that day and the floor was really muddy Blech!)

O&A Board Regular Registered: Jan. 01 | quote: Wookie, thats the whole point of having management. If there was noone around to "supervise", do you honestly think people would always do the right thing? Sure, in a Utopian world, everybody would throw the old food out, cook it properly, look before crossing, etc., but the reality of life is that people are inanely flawed, and will do messed up things given the chance and situation of not being caught doing whatever it is that they're doing. As far as being stolen form a news show, thats cool, you don't have to believe me - but I know there are a lot of people in this thread who have worked for fast food places, and though they may not have seen or done the exact same things I spoke of, they know all too well that this type of behavior exists. A lot of people think that these ae mainly urban legends. For the stories I have heard about but not witnessed I think theres a chance some of them may in fact be just that - BUT, since I've seen some pretty messed up stuff, I'm more likely to lean toward the side that it actually happened. Inspections were a regular occurrence at most of the places I worked at, whether it was from the actual company or the Health department didn't matter - we always knew at least a week before they came - so everything was always on the up and up and done properly. O&A Board Regular Registered: Sep. 00 | I love society today People are so concerned with their health, and keeping their little kids from ever getting exposed to any germs that might give them the sniffles that they freak out over these types of things. Don't get me wrong, the maggot thing is disgusting, but all of what you guys are talking about here, (the dirt from the floor, the old meat, etc.) other than being a little disgusting to think about isn't all that dangerous to your health. Do you know that there is an allowable amount of rat meat in most processed meat products. Yes, that's right, RAT MEAT. The FDA realizes it is impossible to keep rats and other vermin totally out of the processing plants, and sometimes they fall into the machines. Since you can't keep the meat rat-free, they say you can't have more than a certain percentage be "non-specified product". Yeah, what is done to our food might seem a little nasty to us, but bear in mind, human beings have been eating dirt, bugs, and shit for 20,000 years. We're (myself included) just so scared of anything that is pasturized and anti-bacterial that it disgusts us to no end now From cowardice that dares not know the truth, From laziness that is content with half-truth, From arrogance that thinks it knows the whole truth, Deliver me

O&A Board Regular Registered: Feb. 01 | My first job, aside from being a caddy, was working at BK when I was 15 or 16. I was fired on my 3rd day, I was working the fries, and sneezed, I turned my head and covered up, but then sneezed again, and there was no protection or any kind of a shield. I sneezed all over the fries that were in the basket thing ready to serve. I guess the first one made people look, and the second one was seen by everyone. I worked there for 3 more minutes, and was fired on the spot.

Psychopath Registered: Mar. 01 | quote: No, you're right about that. I just meant that the employees are the ones who are the bad people in these scenarios. Yes, management needs to be on top of it, but these workers can't say "Hey, it's not my fault." O&A Board Regular Registered: Jan. 01 | Germs and becteria have been around a lot longer than anyone else has (as a species), and they are not going away anytime soon. In fact, and I'm far from a biology expert, but I think we actually NEED some of them to live our daily lives. Is that a justification for serving shitty food to people knowingly? No, of course not. But, if you're really that concerned about it, you just don't eat at these places. Hell, everyday life is a crapshhot anyway, whether you're eating, having sex, or even walking down the street. I don't want to go to my local restaurant and eat a rat burger, but I would go crazy if I actually thought that everything I ate had to pass through an inspection test. heres a perfect example that happened to me - at my job, we have a cafeteria where we can get lunch should we choose to in lieu of going outside or bringing our own. And for the most part, the food is excellent, and its very clean. To make a long story short, I ordered a tuna sandwich a few months ago, and got really sick from it - knocked me out for 2 days. Since then, I haven't eaten tuna - not just from them, from anyone! but I still eat there, just foods without mayo. Will I get sick again from it? Maybe, maybe not - but since I got so sick, I'm not about to take the chance unless I feel totally comfortable with it. I'm sure I'll go back to tuna one day, but to me its like drinking that shot that really made you heave one night - you just don't go running back to have another for a very long time.
