i dunno...

but I think taking a vacation after just being introduced into so many new markets is a mistake. Listening to best of shit seems somewhat, for a lack of a better word, ungenuine. Its like listening to a cd instead of being at a concert. That live connection just isnt there. There is also a lack of continuity which adds to the mess. For example, youre listening to one bit and finally learn who all the players are in the studio at that time. Then, the next thing you know "john madden"' or someone else is there. Its f-ed up.

I know im always disappointed when its a best of show during the week, and I know these guys gotta take vacations (ya gotta spend $30 mil on something), but I hope the new markets dont tune out while waiting for the guys to come back.

Heres looking forward to their return.

I can't think of anything I hate worse than Radio Re-Runs. It never sits well with me. Do something different. What ever you do don't give me Radio Re-Runs.

Also, The theme music is probably explained this way. IF, and i say if, Rick is halfway compitant He makes sure that they have those CD's with all the theme music on it. Also has them enter into a searchable database Where they have CD names & track #'s. But I could be giving them to much credit.

Radio reruns can be OK, but not the way they're doing it. They keep playing stuff we just heard about 2 to 4 weeks ago. Play stuff from 2 to 3 years ago.

Very good point Painter. I've thought that myself.
Sometimes they seem like they are afraid to play the old stuff as if they feel they weren't funny enough back then. It's the stuff from 2-3 years ago that hooked us into the show so it couldn't be that bad. Give us a little "old school" and bring us back to what first attracted us to the show.

i am just glad that i was not the only one wandering about the howard thing. I always figured that i either missed that day or they were avoiding the mattter. My guess is that they are under contract not to go into anything. They seem to play the 'we do what we want' card a lot (just look at how they make fun of the boston dj)almost like they're focing us to believe something that isn't real. The point has been made about them saying 'its old news . . . there's no point in getting into it now, but lets go after the guys in boston which is old news'. We were told by O & A that they would expulge all info, even the real gritty shit that we've had to wait on since this shit came to a head last december. Those of us from the tri-state area have waited, and for the most part patiently. Now that i think about it, it would make some sense to go into the Big Bird bullshit once all the markets are tuned-in. But then we would have to listen to all the bs that happened leading up to this, which is still sometimes more interesting than hearing about twatto. . . again. But then again. this would be bad for infinity, which i don't care what O & A say, infinity will have the final say. At least early on in the contract. Which i am sure has to do with all the changes. Anyway . . . like ant said, we're superfans, the ones paying attention a little more than others, so i guess its inevitable that this thread was to come about.

Now i guess i will sit back and wait for the ridicule of how i just stated the obvious and regurgitated what has been said already.

You will NOT hear the boys go off on Howard because Howard is the meal ticket and O&A's lead in....Of course all those "spontaneous" conversations were nothing of the sort. You believed that line about not preparing for the show?...The biggest problem with the show now is its overly repetitive.

Sad but true. Even if its prepared, bits that 'seem' off the cuff like the Telemundo and Charlton Heston going off about a new NRA theme resturant are what make the show great.

As for Stern, I have to agree with you there. They're kissing way too much Stern ass to not have some 'other' kind of Stern gag order. You can talk about Stern as long as you don't reveal the kind of information they teased us with before syndication.

Another point is the whole "we don't prepare for the show" line. Granted, I believe they may not prepare as much as other shows do and completely wing it on some of the bits, but when the Planet of the Apes music hits and Ant goes into a 1/2 hour rant as Heston I find it hard to believe anyone can completely pull that out of the air without preparation.

well flock i agree but O&A have been hypocritical on many many things.

Go back to when the rock walked out all pissed. They went as far as to say we will never deal nor talk to the wwf, blah blah. Hey he did his stint he gave you radio and soem dramam then they bitched about not getting into WWF NY ok shit happens i been locked out times too. But then they gte tix to wrestlemania and alls well and they tell us "what we are supposed to hold a grudge?"

I thought bashing howard and other jocks for spending hours on the air bitching was assanine when Opie is guilty of the same thing.

Saying that scotso does 30 minutes of shot in his 2 hours or whatever? Well you know what between commercials, chicks, guests and calls i'd say O&A do about the same.

The whole howard ordeal we went thorugh.

The whole BS of not preparing for shows maybe a couple years ago but not now. Opie himself has said during commercials he is preparing for the next thing they are gonna do, and on the fox 5 special they said they prepare for the show.

There are soooooooo many things you can call them on but as fans we try to overlook it. But i am not about to repeat what happened with howrd fans here, i never was and never will be a sheep.

Whenever they bring up a news article or something they saw on TV or some other rant they go on, you can rest assured they have alot of the stuff they are going to say planned out beforehand. And that has ALWAYS been true. Bits dont generally just "happen". They probably spend a bit of time before each show talking about stuff they might wanna bring up on the air, they sketch certain things out, flesh out some ideas and then go with it. It was never "spontaneous". Their chit chat is predetermined before the show. Op and Ant probably already have some lines thought up before they even start the conversation, if not written down beforehand.

As for what happened to all those contests, the boys have dropped a bunch of ideas and contests that never panned out including the Jackass contest, the first offensive song contest(noone won that), the WOW song contest they tried to start this year but has gone nowhere, the best WOW sign on TV contest, which I guess is still going on. They overcontested this summer, I agree with their descion not to do another contest for a bit. As for the teen car wash, they couldnt find anyplace to hold it. And Pantypoolaza sounds just a little wacky, so it might be a good idea to drop it. They also had the celebrity softball game scheduled for right when their contract ran out and because they hadnt signed a new deal, they had to cancel the softball game. Perhaps not the greatest planning there, scheduling the softball game right when their contract runs out, but thats what happened there.

The two of them are extremely talented and work well together. I don't think one could exist in the same fashion without the other. As much as I listen to their show, drive around with my wow sticker, flash the tired men waiting in traffic and always try to convince others to give them a chance, I do have some problems with the show.

1. They have no problem making fun of others on or off the air but the minute it happens to them the sky is falling and the person is just damned to hell for it. I think they need to lighten up a bit when it comes to taking it as good as they give it and I am not talking about the bits they do when they open themselves up for the abuse. I mean regarding a joke said in person, off air or on the board when it catches them off guard.

2. I miss the old O&A on some days. Maybe instead of playing the repeats of what got us all hooked onto the show they should be creating bits along the same lines.

3. When they are on vacation for a week or have a day off most of the replayed stuff is from the last 4 months. Can we go back a little further? I think that's what has most people saying that some of the bits are overplayed. They have just over 3 great years of radio in New York...that's a lot of replay material...so don't be afraid to use it.

That's about it. I don't let the above bother me or stop me from listening to them. They are as the creater of this thread mentioned, things you look over. I enjoy the show and will continue listening, not because I am "sheep" but because I enjoy listening.

And for those of you who bitch about it when they have the day off or take vacation just shut up and kill yourself. It's the only chance I get to listen to WABC without feeling like I am cheating. LOL

I have several thoughts:

  • O&A will most definitely not discuss the details of the whole Howard saga. While many of the hardcore O&A fans love to bash Howard, the bottom line is that Howard is the bread and butter of Infinity and there are quite a few people throughout the country who love Howard. I believe it is highly likely that some of the details of the numerous battles will not paint Howard in the most flattering light. In fact, I would ventue to say that Howard could very easily be perceived as a whiny, crybaby bitch in the whole thing. Now our boys are national, so the whole country would get to hear the story that makes Howard look like a bitch. It would probably even get some press coverage, so even cities that O&A are not syndicated in will get to hear that Howard is a bitch. Infinity will absolutely not allow that to happen. The boys will not talk about the details of the Howard saga because they are not allowed to.
  • Like so many people have already expressed, I too have noticed some differences since syndication. I truly hope that O&A are not falling into the some of the same pitfalls that Howard did and that they are smart enough to learn from his mistakes. (I think they are :)) Is it possible that maybe their heads are slightly swollen having just signed a huge cotract with a national syndication deal? Definitely possible, but Anthony checks in here regularly and I'm sure our input has been duly noted. Enough said.
  • The O&A that we love (and some feel we're missing) are completely over the top. They've given us plenty of utter debauchery and funny-ass radio. They can solicit any number of reactions from their listeners; from laughing so hard that you almost fall out of your chair, to so outraged that you are sitting in your car during the drive home screaming at the radio, to so turned on that you can almost feel yourself in whatever situation it is that you're hearing on the radio. Many times, all in the same 4 hour show! They can get those reactions from us because we know them so well, and a lot of times we feel like we are really a part of it all. It took time to develop that relationship. The completely over the top O&A we're used to now is not the O&A we were first introduced to. A new city can't be introduced with an all out assault. Some of their best bits/shows have had me laughing my ass off, but part of it was nervous laughter because of radio that on some levels was just flat out uncomfortable. People need some time to warm up to a new show. If I had turned on O&A when they first came to New York and one of the first things I heard was a song like Baby Raper, would I still be listening? Probably not. Give them some time to initiate the newbies.
  • quote:

They didn't prepare shows before syndication? Are you high?

    Bravo, Sarcastro. Wake up folks.

Sorry for the epic post, but I really felt the need to share. Peace!

I have to beg to differ.

I think that "Arogant and Well Hung" and Howard 'Boner Nose' Stern can do a fued.
Think of just how well that do for ratings for infinity. People from both shows would tune in to see what happens next. And people from both sides might end up listening more to the other. Infinity could view this as a perfect oppurtinity to get people interested in a freakish and cringeful fued. I don't understand why infinity doesn't see this. It's not one stealing ratings from another, they are in different time slots for gods sake. People would tune (much like the ones that hate the show, but still listen to see what happens next) to see what happens in the next onslaught. This could end up being gold. But hey, what do i know.

Infinity could introduce the old to the new and make it work, or they could show that morning and afternoon can compete, even though being under the same company, and still make a lot of cash for infinity. It's simple. And sorry for going off the point of this thread.

I don't disagree that Howard can do a fued, and I think that if a new one were to erupt now Infinity would let them go at it. With the sydication deal, O&A are in the big league now and the two sides would be on a fair playing field. That was not the case with the old feud; it was a matter of a big guy picking on the little guy. By using his muscle at Infinity, Howard had the boys banned from talking about Howard. Was he capable of a fued? Absolutely, he just chose not to and rather than just ignore whatever O&A (and any other Infinity show for that matter) were saying, he ran to Infinity and had them shut up. The fact that the guys had to have a stipulation put into their contract that allows them to talk about Howard now gives them a more equal footing. All of the stuff before was not equal and once again, I think Howard would come across as a whiny bitch, crybaby bully. Howard himself may have been the one who insisted that the details not come out. Who knows? The fact remains that I do not think we will get to hear the deatils of the fued any time in the near future, if ever.
I, too, am sorry if this post, along with my previous one, goes off the point of the thread a bit.:)

and while we are all bitching...

the commercials are getting way f-ing long... like saturday nite live long.

And im so sick of hearing the same "live" adds read over and over.

Please dont tell me syndication is turning O&A into radio Walmart. I think it was much better as a mom and pop shop. (Was ant the mom or pop? i dunno)

I am taking a wait & see attitude about the show; hopefully, when the stress of trying to get ratings in new markets subsides, the guys will focus on new events to get back their cutting edge. And without any TEEN WEEK this summer, I too have gone into withdrawal!! (I hope that the Voyeur Bus didn't Rooonnneee it!)

But what I REALLY hate is the damn POLICE SIREN!!!I don't know how many years that has taken off my life.

And when are they gonna bring back the Stinky Cam??? I know they said that it is being "fixed", but how long does it take?? Is Earl doing it?? Can't they take some of that $30 Million and fix one of the best parts of the show???

BTW, where has Vinny the Racist been??

DR, you bring up a great point. Vinny hasn't been on in a while, and i noticed lately that whenever something is about to get racist, like anytime that Norton says something along those lines, its immediately smashed down and in comes the inappropriate bell. They don't let a few more jokes be said. I guess this should be good, but hell, i enjoy a little ethnic bashing sometimes, its what makes them crude. But i could be wrong . . .

and whats the point of bashing Rick, we know he's gay. the guy died his hair yellow and would swallow his own stuff. rick=fag

Im Ok with Them not talking about Howard unless its in defence. Its not in there best interest to talk about him untill they finish there Syndication with 22 or 19 cities ( Not Markets hehe). Plus its a nice ACE up the sleave.

quote:

Maybe instead of playing the repeats of what got us all hooked onto the show they should be creating bits along the same lines.

The problem with that is most of the best bits that happend were mostly spontaneous and hard are to repeat , if they ever can be.

Usally whatever Norton says deserves the inappropriate bell. O&A are not a racist show, they play on the sterotypesOF EVERYONE!!! Some people just dont get that.

Whats really starting to bother me is : WHAT EVER HAPPEND TO TEEN CARWASH??? I need teens, Damnit!! Even if I cant see it when it happens there are ALWYAS video and Pictures.

The ONLY thing I don't like is when certain guests take over the show. Sometimes it's Mohr, sometimes it's Breuer, MOSTLY it's Norton (get a job already!). Sometimes it's okay (can anyone say razor rollerboard scooter?), but mostly it goes too long. If Jay Mohr was that funny, he'd have his own radio show. He's good in small doses. And Norton should be banished to an AM station for a year so we have a chance to miss him.

Here's another that I thought of today. Why is it if a guest like Norton, Otto & George, or Mario Cantone swear, Opie plays it off with a laugh, but if a caller does it they get their ass handed to them?
Here is how Opie sounds EVERY time a guest swears: [laughing]Whoa, whoa, whoa! Wait a minute! We had to dump out of that one. You can't say that."[/laughing]
