| O&A Board Veteran Registered: Feb. 01  | Welcome to the new OA.com Adoption Agency. To start, I would like to ask all members to remove their past adopted newbie names from their signatures. Do it or we will do it for you. Now, let me explain how this program will differ from the last one... If you are interested in mentoring a newbie, you should email either Opak or myself and we will decide whether or not you can handle the responsibility. Once you have been approved, the rules for adoption are simple: 1. No adopter should have more than 2 adoptees at any time 2. Adoptees should be graduated after no more than 10 days 3. No moderators will adopt, they will remain unbiased to settle potential disputes 4. Adopters should feel free to find adoptees either in the "Adoption Agency" thread or on their own 5. Adopters should place their adoptees in their signatures only for the duration of their time teaching that person If you are a new member or a lurker looking for a little protection and a little guidance, please feel free to post here in the hopes of finding some light. This thread is for adopting members and newbies to meet on common ground. DO NOT DEFILE THIS THREAD! But also to talk to someone who's been around for a while and you will feel more comfortable posting knowing you have someone on the board you know. But please do not abouse this privialge do not think you can post certain things because you have a veteran as you're big bro or sis. | Hanger-On Registered: Feb. 01 | Hi I wanna be adopted even tho GonzoStyle thinks I dont need it. I want to be adopted because i'll feel safer with a big brother/sister. I am: House Broken Trained No Trouble Quiet(till you get to know me) Polite(most of the times) Loyal A lurker more than a poster. I am only on usually Fri, Sat and Sun because thats the only time my mother lets me go on. So im usually behind on the boards ongoings. If the mods feel that there are other newbies in more need of adoption than me then maybe we can get a sorta smart newbie(i know few and far between and an oxymoron in itself) Buddy Program, were us newbies who know better can just help eachother out with a question here and there to a mod or someone if there is doubt. Last time, I had three - one dropped off the face of the earth, one posts rarely (WoundedAngel - she still has "Adopted by FollowThisLogic in her sig, but I'm not counting that anymore), and the other also posts rarely but I see on AIM a bit. If you'd like some guidance and insight into the world of OA.Com, IM me at OAGrumpy or email me at [email protected]. I'm not picky about who I adopt. The only rule is that you listen and learn. If you're name has been tarnished or if you've earned a strike, don't count yourself out. We'll see what we can do about it if it's an honest mistake. Kudos for bringing the program back.  If you can't dazzle them with your brilliance, baffle them with your bullshit! | ||||

I mean is there a way that you can make it so that you can't signup for a new sn until you have a password or approval or something? This program is great for newbies even if they don't really need it. It keeps them out of hot water for awhile. I didn't really need the program but as you can see, Grumpy was able to explain some things that you can't find in the threads (board hierarchy, unwritten rules, stuff like that). The only problem with this program is that it is left on the shoulders of the new member to seek out this program. I just think it may work better for everyone if it became mandatory. But what the hell do I know, it may be more work for the Web Admins to set the board to do this. It's just a thought. Kindest Regards, My Name | ||||
