It rarely gets beyond that, it seems. They back it
up with their opinions they try to pass off as
fact ("It is a FACT that they aren't funny!"), or
silly statements ("They ripped off taking phone
calls from us!"), or parroting stuff their show
said ("Behind the scenes they tried to do this!"),
or the kind of personal attacks that can only be
done in an annonymous forum like the internet
("He's fat!" "He picked up a prostitute and it
turned out it was a dude!" "He was arrested for a
DUI!" "He was screwing a 15 year old!").
Meanwhile, everyone behind the microphone collects
their paychecks and goes home, even though both
shows ratings continue to slide, while the
"battles" continue on the internet.

Sure - fans of both shows make some great points
in justifying why they don't like the show; they
think D&M are too old to relate to them - they
think O&A treat women badly

When pressed, these turbo-fans will give you the,
"Well, I tried to give the X&X show a chance when
they started, and I didn't find them funny, so I
stopped listening." We've heard this statement
said from BOTH camps, for months and months now,
yet they still seem to know all sorts of details
about the shows they say they don't like. Which,
really doesn't matter. Neither of these shows care
if you like them or not, as long as you listen -
bottom line.

Ok, so, yeah, there are a million and one reasons
why fans of O&A and D&M hate the other show, but
the one that makes the most sense (to me) is that
each show exposes the weakness in the other by the
simplly running back to back.

Both shows are painted as "The Anti-Zoo," but when
running them back to back you can't help to notice
(in the other show) that what they are making fun
of, they have become. They aren't an anti-zoo,
they are a "Morning Zoo" show. Sort of like what
happened with Oliver Stone's NATURAL BORN KILLERS,
which tried to make an anti-violence point, with
over the top violence. Ten years later, the movie
is simply thought of, by some, as an over-the-top
violence filled movie, without any mention of the
message it was trying to make.

Same thing with these guys - the other show comes
to town, and the turbo-fans think, "Well this is
what my show was making fun of for all of these
years, why would I listen to THAT?!"

A lot of people have wondered how real the radio
was Thursday, and into Friday. While it more than
likely was (I doubt Don would have agreed to
anything being said about his wife and kid if this
hade been a faux radio feud), the fact that it all
played out on Thursday, the way it did (with the
sort of "Need to listen to the next show to see
how this all plays out" kind of vibe) leads me to
think that they all knew exactly what they were
doing when they stepped in front of the mics.

Has anyone ever noticed how all (!) of the really
huge radio contests happen on Thursdays? All the
big money - listen every hour - listen at 7:45 am
for a chance to win a million dollars - listen
for us to debut a new song - usually happens on
Thursdays??

It has everything to do with the way arbitron
gathers ratings, and Don knows this and (I'm
guessing) it all played out exactly how he had
invisioned.

And as far as O&A's part in this, well, just as
Don isn't stupid (he knew what would happen if he
called again and again) Opie and Anthony knew why
Don chose a Thursday to lay it down. There were no
behind the scenes calls with anyone giving a
heads-up, it was simply a verbal wink to let them
know what was going on.

Opie and Anthony could have ignored it and moved
on, making a snide comment here or there, but they
realized that they were getting a larger DC
listenership than usual, so why not go ahead and
spend a day trashing D&M.

Meanwhile, Don is home smoking his cigar, laughing
is fat ass off.

D&M fans who gave up on O&A long ago tuned back in
- O&A fans who swore they would never listen to
D&M did as well, and this will continue, and in
the end neither show is going to go anywhere.

And it all started on a Thursday.
