| O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | I was the fat kid in grade school who always got his ass kicked by the "cool kids". My own brother used to hold me so the other kids could hit me in order to toughen me up. (Does that qualify as "tough Love"?) Needless to say, I never fought back. I found it totally assinine to fight with nothing to fight for. Flash-forward to High School... after growing into my weight (I went from being 5'1", 190lbs @ 13 to 6'0", 180lbs @ 16) and living in Florida with my father for a few years, I returned to my "childhood stomping grounds" only to find that everyone now wanted to be my "friend" because I fit (no pun intended) into the crowd. Well, I didn't forget those who tormented me over the years and they paid... you see, in my HS years I was quite the entrepenuer (I sold drugs:ie; mesc, acid & pot) ...& anyone who had F-ed with me over the years got ripped off, time & time again. Flashing foward to the present... And now that I've been out of HS for close to 15 years (& retired from my former trade) I get to see some of these "people" from time to time at local bars & such. I can't help but to laugh... 9&1/2 out of 10 of them are complete losers... No Jobs, raging alcoholics, fat & out of shape, married, divorced & married again w/ 7 rotten ugly kids, toothless & balding and pretending like they are still "my friend".... | Hanger-On Registered: Feb. 01 | I grew up in a small town where there was only one class per grade, so you literally grew up with the same kids. Grammar school was the place where all the nicknames were invented, and where your "status" in the class was etched in stone. Ten years later it didn't matter what you looked like or who you hung out with because your status stuck with you FOREVER. I wasn't cool but I wasn't a geek either - I was just nobody. I remember one of the cool girls throwing spitballs into my hair in the 9th grade (I remember it quite vividly), and I decided I had enough of this small town crap. I moved in with my father 100 miles away and got the rare opportunity to totally REINVENT myself. It was the best thing I ever did. I got to shake the stupid labels, I developed self-confidence and was finally able to enjoy life and what it has to offer. | ||||

| O&A Board Veteran Registered: Dec. 00 | I grew up in one of the worst parts of Queens. Most of the people I went to elementary and Junior high school with are either dead or in jail. No joke. Very few got out of the neighborhood. As for high school, the most likely to succeed is pumpin gas at an amoco last I heard. His fem counterpart is a telemarketer. Funny how things work out, isn't it? Mr Popularity has been divorced 2 times and an alcoholic. I have no idea what happen to Miss Popularity. Probably working in a brothel in Reno or something.
