Psychopath Registered: Nov. 00 | Oh, so sorry. We were GOING to put O&A on in Erie tomorrow at three, but then we got requests to put them on XM radio. And, you see, XM radio is exclusive so Erie FM loses out. Oh, wait. Nope, not going to XM. Why? Because only an ass would pay for radio! You want specific music you can listen to anywhere and not have commercials? BUY A CD YOU MORON!!!! XM radio is up there with Betamax, DSL cable and Sony Dreamcast in the annals of stupid tech that will be hot for a year then disappear. Quote me on this one. "Ladies and gentlemen, heed my advice. You want specific movies you can watch anytime and not have commercials? BUY A VIDEO TAPE YOU MORON!!!!" Now fast forward to today... Do you know anyone who doesn't have either cable, sattelite, or some sort of "pay" television service? I doubt it. I think as XM radio expands its programming to offer more of a variety, their popularity will grow. We'll see... ON YOUR KNEES, BITCHES!!!!!!

Psychopath Registered: Nov. 00 | First off, VERY valid point about cable tv. However, let's look at this. Using tv as an analogy, here in New Yrok, pre-cable, you had 8 channels (for those of you doing the math right now, 2,4,5,7,9,11,13,21). Cable was viable because a)it offered an increase usually by 400/500 percent. and b) cable actually began before VCR's were common technology. Not everyone had one of those clunky, top-loading, the show of a quality machine was a clock, VCR's (on-screen menu's? still 15 years away). But a lot of people bought those little boxes that had dials on them that, if set just right between two channels, let you see unscrambled porn. CD's are here and widely used. Radio stations often offer more variety of stations than most people WANT, much less need. What XM radio would need to do is offer what cable did: content you're unable to find on regular radio. Now, if XM radio were to offer, say, old time radio shows on more than one or two channels (I collect them), I'D probably run right out and get them. But, if you want my prediction, Car MP3 players will be the next hot thing. This way you can set up 10 or 12 hours per disc and if there was a mp3 disc changer...you could easily compile enough for cross-country. I don't see subscription radio lasting. Most people (non-O&A obviously), listen to the radio MAYBE twice a day. On the way to work and the way home (if they aren't playing cd's). If you NEED radio for cross-country trips and are not a trucker or a drug runner, you are travelling far too much. "Ladies and gentlemen, heed my advice. O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | I can see XM Radio taking off in non urban areas where they only get reception for one or two stations....other than that I don't see a need for satellite radio. Av8er Radio [AIM]Â [ICQ]Â [E-Mail]
