Hanger-On Registered: Mar. 01 | Who needs a modem? I don't need a modem. When I need to use the internet, I just shout ones and zeroes out the window. Hey Norton! Opie & Anthony Express West Coast Dave

Psychopath Registered: Aug. 00 | Got this PC in Mid february... I dunno... does being dialed up for 18 hours out of every day for 4 months straight kill a modem? I have never had a modem go bad on me before... ever -- was a US Robotics... if I leave the machine off all night and fire it up the next morning -- it'll dial out -- but if I have to dial back forget it -- Expecting the package with the new modem tomorrow (wed) ... Special Thanx to Tracy and FezOandA for the Sig Pic!

Hanger-On Registered: Mar. 01 | Using a modem to constantly dial up should have no effect whatsoever on the life of the product. When I was still living in Jersey, I used to have my modem hooked up and connected 24/7, and never had any problems. I ran 24 hours for almost two years, before I moved out here. You probably just got a bad modem, but if your modem is giving you problems like that, then it may have been overheating. That would explain why it quit working after long periods of use, but then worked okay the next day. It had time to cool off. When you install this new modem, try installing it in the PCI slot farthest from the power supply at the bottom of the tower. If it was overheating, then this will help. If your modem still overheats and starts causing you similar problems, you should consider an external modem.
