| O&A Board Regular Registered: Sep. 00 | The first day Leykis spoke out against O&A (September 15, 1999 - the third day of WNEW's 'new' FM Talk format), Tubby Tom said, in no specific order: O&A "don't have the balls to come and say to his face that he stole WOW". (O&A discussed Leykis' 'Flash Friday' thingie on their show earlier that day.) He also called them "pussies" and they're "Mr. Balls of Steel" and stuff, and added that they can't be so brilliant since he's syndicated. (This was when O&A were only broadcasting in NY, obviously.) Meanwhile, O&A were listening to this psychobabble in their office, but they couldn't help but break into the studio and into Tom's show. Opie pointed out to him that he's "worried about little Opie & Anthony, talking about them to millions of his listeners", thus getting them acquainted with them. Tom was like "No, this is my show" and cut off their microphones. Ant yelled "Pussy!" at him on his way out of the studio. The next day, Opie described the scene: Tom broadcasts in the dark, with only the glow of the phone lines, and he's dressed in 'ghetto gear', a 'down-syndrome haircut' and even sunglasses - in the dark! How pathetic... Two years later... Who's pathetic now? End of story.   <---- Kiss me helmet. | ||||

| Psychopath Registered: Nov. 00 | I'm not exactly sure, but I think it's because the contract had a certain length of time on it. Since Tom had no ratings, they dumped him in weeknights. But, WNEW still has an obligation to broadcast Tom on a regular basis. That is only my speculation, though. | O&A Board Regular Registered: Sep. 00 | I confirm that speculation - someone with knowledge posted it on the ol' NYRMB, it's a contractual obligation. (Translation: due to a contract, WNEW is obligated to run Tubby Tom until the hours run out.) I tell ya, it is weird to turn him on Sunday afternoon and think about the five months he was on in primetime... Opie & Anthony always win in the end!  GO BUCS | ||||
