The Garden State Parkway toll collector who nearly lost his job over a radio stunt involving a woman baring her breasts at his toll booths learned yesterday that his punishment would be a 10-day suspension.
Lou Campbell, 37, known as "Parkway Lou" to listeners of WZXL-FM in Atlantic City, became something of a cult hero in South Jersey over the last week when word spread that he faced dismissal.
The radio station encouraged motorists to make protest signs and urged women to drive topless on the Parkway in support of Campbell.
Officials at the New Jersey Highway Authority, which runs the Parkway, had filed disciplinary charges against Campbell after he allowed the radio station to broadcast his conversation with a woman who flashed her breasts when she went through his toll booth on March 6.
That day, the station's off-color show, "Matthew in the Morning," had offered female motorists a chance at winning concert tickets if they "flashed" toll collectors. As part of the stunt, the disc jockeys sought out toll collectors willing to describe for the radio audience what they saw.
Campbell, a 12-year Parkway employee, volunteered for the gimmick and almost lost his job. Officials accused him of embarrassing the Parkway, of making personal calls while working and of allowing the motorists to evade tolls.
Campbell, who declined comment because he has been placed on 90 days probation, was hit with a 10-day suspension. Campbell, who makes $51,000, will be able to use vacation days to get paid for half the time of the suspension.
Parkway officials declined to comment.

Ha Ha! Don't know if this qualifies as enemy, but interesting nonetheless (IMHO)
What is a WZXL or a Matthew In The Morning? Wacky morning zoo!
