| Psychopath Registered: Sep. 00  | I was listening to Stern this morning, and I realized one thing. Stern listens to O&A every day. Stern listens, and tries to pick up some of O&A's "coolness". Example: today, he used the phrase "Turkish taffy" while describing Melissa Etheridge's privates. Yesterday, Stern wished to slam his "junk" into Kathie Lee's ass. The so-called "king" of radio picking up material from the station he calls "a station of imitators". | O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | If they are staying with Infinity, which it seems extremely likely, they will still not be able to say what they really want about certain people in the company. As long as Howard rules Infinity, O&A will remain the bastard step children. What I do see happening to them, is getting syndicated in about 3-5 markets for start and not just Boston. I also see them not having to deal with KRock about musical guests. So they will be able to have people in like Buck Cherry and Greenday without problems. Afraid, I THINK, everything else will remain the same. | ||||

Howard has convinced alot of his fans of his originality, no truth Opie and Anthony can reveal will change that. They wont believe it. So why bother? Opie and Anthony cant win because their fans will believe what they say but Howard' die hard fans will not be convinced of anything. Period. Its a losing battle to try. | ||||

It's obvious that Stern was informed that OA overuse "junk" and Stern is using it to tease and anger them. He knows what he is doing. You keep repeating the mantra: "Stern is old and tired" and you have convinced yourself that it's true. Meanwhile, he is now talking about having sex with his new girlfriend, Beth. Like the rest of us, I was also a Stern fan, but not as much as a fanatic as I am an O&A fan. What caused me to tune out is that Stern showed his true colors and that's what turned me off. If he didn't want others doin the Shock Jock Genre, he should have copyrighted it, but he didn't so too fucking bad. It'll be funny when Stern has been finally driven to suicide. I heard about O&A shortly after they came to NY, and wouldn't listen to them for a while, out of misplaced loyalty to Stern (back when, in my opinion, his show was still good). Thanks to my boyfriend, I've been a rabid O&A fan for almost 2 years now. Otherwise, I don't think the radio would be worth listening to at all. Which would suck, since I only have radio in my car. This scares Infinity management - if Stern goes, the advertising money goes with him. Millions... gone. If the gag order is gone this week, hell maybe gone for a few months.... it will come back. And O&A, having signed new Infinity contracts, would have no chance but to deal with it as they have for over a year. Do you think they're going to take that? I don't think they will. And don't you think they want the morning slot? Hate to break it to ya, but mornings are the most prestigious spot in radio. When you're in the morning, you're at the top (unless you're at WNEW, of course). WNEW can't put them in mornings because Stern's contract calls for no competition in his slot for all of Infinity. Use the "hey man, O&A don't even want to get up that early" excuse all you want - cause it's not true anymore. Anthony himself said something to the effect of "I wouldn't mind getting up early" when a caller used that same excuse. Gagged afternoons or complete freedom in the morning. | Psychopath Registered: May. 01 | Poor Howard. He WAS the biggest thing in radio years ago. When he was hungry, he had a passion I had never seen before, and it was scary. He killed that "wacky" bald guy in the ratings like he said he would, and the guy's wife committed suicide possibly as a result of the shenanigans Howard cooked up between them. And then, at the end, just as Howard said, the guy wound up working for him. When he went against somebody, and he didn't like them (let's face it, most radio acts are fucking lame) he would tear them a new a-hole. Now, Howard is no longer hungry and has not been for several years. Especially since his divorce, his show has just blown. He used to have Gilbert Gottfried and Richard Belzer read the news with Robin at the end of the show, and that was some of the funniest shit ever. Now it seems like his radio show is just the base for his E! and CBS shows. I stopped listening to him before I discovered O&A. What turned me on to O&A was a drive down to Pennsylvania a few years ago, and Ant was doing a bit about Charles Kuralt when he put out that book about his travels. I had no idea who these guys were, but describing a vagina as "Fidel Castro eating a London Broil" is to this day the most hysterical term I have ever heard for that part of the female anatomy. Opie and Anthony never stole ANYTHING from that spoiled bastard. I used to be a big Stern fan, if you couldn't tell, but since Howard has turned from his usual stunts to resorting to gag orders and legal bullshit, I can't stand the whiny bastard. No one, and I mean NO ONE has connected with their fans like O&A have. The operative word there is was. I listened to Opie (and Ant at times) back at WBAB, and I wasn't that impressed then. Some good, some bad IMHO. Things are so different now. O&A have really grown to the point of "Must listen to radio". Stern on the other hand is the ultimate hypocrite. He made his name complaining that celebrities were too full of themselves, and he would sick stuttering john after them. He would lambast celebrities for dumping their wives, and say how he stuck by his. Fast forward a few years. As Opie would say "we only wanted a sandwich"; Stern is what he always complained about - an unfunny whiner who is afraid of anyone talking about him. O&A have grown to the point where they truly are the holders new title Sorry for the rant; that post was a LONG time comming. | ||||
