Psychopath Registered: Dec. 00 | Everyone MUST go to the New York Radio Message Board and read the "Imus and his NY stations" post. It's an old industry trade article from 1971. It talks about Imus' history. He had some bits that sound pretty damn funny. In fact, they sound an awful lot like someone else I know. Far more than "How's your donkey kong" and "Moby Worm" Well, there goes my last crutch. I can't believe what I read. Imus was doing the format in 1971. Howard was 17, and didn't start Broadcasting at BU until 1976.(he was 22) It sounds like Howard was listening to Imus and improving on HIS theme and format. Granted, he added the women, freaks, and general honest reality of the show, ie: putting his family on the air, and talking about his personal life, but Imus seems to have done FAR more than Howard gives him credit for. I guess I WAS truly brainwashed. I can't fuckin' believe it. He seemed to be telling the truth, ALL THE TIME! He was kicking so much ass, and did bring the format further, that I guess I shaped everything that he said into a true ideology. He does deserve credit, but I've realized, if you're a Stern fan and give him credit, you'd better give it to O&A too. I've come to realize, Howard is no different than ANY dj who has been influenced by those before him. He heard a format he loved, improved on it, and became successful. He must be the world's biggest egomaniac for him to downplay his peers who inspired him, then turn around and disrespect the. It's what He's bitching about now! I guess that's why he won't fight the boys on the air, It PAINS me to say this believing its true, but... He'll lose. Howard will lose, and there isn't a damn thing that ANY die hard Stern fan can do about it. I feel, partially duped. I also feel sorry for Howard at the same time. He was still the greatest, funniest, most fascinating broadcaster I've ever heard, but he didn't do what he says he's done. I've got to mark this date on my calendar. I'm sorry to everyone for thinking I was smarter than I am. (story of my life) This message was edited by FANDICK on 8-5-01 @ 11:33 AM

Psychopath Registered: Dec. 00 | I know man, bottom line its who's the most entertaining. Right now its O&A, no question. I HAVE been listening for a couple of months now. I"ve said before that they're pretty good at coming up with their own shit. Plus they interact with their fans much better than Howard. He used to be that way with his fans, but he doesn't relate to them anymore.

Psychopath Registered: Dec. 00 | Yep, you were right Cunt-Twat. Howard had claimed that he was on the air in '73, it was '76, and it was blind luck that I found that Imus post. I just never heard anything that similar from Imus hearing airchecks and listening to him in the mid nineties to check him out. He's clearly lost it too, but he was doing basically the same thing. Howard didn't invent the format. He improved it, but that's what Imus, Dahl and Muni tried to do too. Don't forget Lenny Bruce and Joe Pine either. Howard just took it to a higher and more popular level of entertainment, wit, and original thinking. Also a new style of interviewing. The boys are at the newest level though. Honesty in it's truest form, and really relating and using the fans to make the show better. Better than even Howard used to. It's the reality Howard was trying to put out. I also can't stand the way Howard still says he's number one evrywhere when he's not even close to that. He does well in all the major cities, but a lot of the smaller markets still give him a tough time. He's even lost a lot of #1 rankings in cities where he previously beat the competition, then declared it "over" Coming from a guy who says you can't declare it over until the end. Well, even I know now what happens in the end, especially if Howard continues the way he's going...O&A win.

Psychopath Registered: Dec. 00 | I read the article, and I dont see any similarlty between Howard and Imus at all. Ive never heard Howard say he was on the air in 1973 and Ive been listening to him since 1985. These threads are getting dull. O and A are cool in the afternoon and Howard is cool in the morning. Fandick you need to relax, its just radio dude. Howd ya like a Hot Karl? This message was edited by Bushwood on 8-5-01 @ 6:06 PM

Psychopath Registered: Jun. 01 | Was it me or did anyone hear Dick face Howard start doing "Two..Two!" And playing the Kasey Kasem bit. I know it's been around for awhile but who added the emphasis on Two?, Ponderous? That's right kids O and A. Add that to the ever growing list. Howard you fucking Hypocrite!!!!

Psychopath Registered: Dec. 00 | Gimme a break. First off that bit has been around for years.Yes since Howard was on the air first, we heard it from him first. Now youre going to debate how he says the word two? Please give it a rest. I really dont see any feud between the TWO shows right now.O and A's real enemy has yet to reveal himself, but I suspect it might be Abe Vigoda. How'd ya like a Hot Karl? Psychopath Registered: Dec. 00 | Bush, I know it's just a radio show, but you're talking about character here. And I HAVE the tape where Howard talks about Steve Dahl and comments on when he was first on the air... Howard: "Steve Dahl, you fat prick. I was getting fired for bits like Godzilla Goes to Harlem in 1973. Hey Steve, pull out your tapes from 1973 if you're so original! Make sure their from 1973." Robin: "It's been proven so many times...that it wasn't you." Howard: "Fat prick!" This was after Dahl saw the premiere of Private Parts and commented on it. As far as Imus and Howard being similar. It sure sounded like it with the Eldridge Clever look alike contest, the busing from Harlem to Wall Street and vice versa, and overall just talking about Imus as a bad boy who constantly fought with management.I know Imus is more political, but it Sounds similar to me. So I'm into this a little more than you Bush, is there something wrong with that. It's not like I'm some obsessed, crazed maniac. And yes Howard has done that bit for years, and all of this single word rip off stuff, some people here sound as stupid as Howard. I thought you only cared about WOW! Besides, Howard is just doing it to try to piss off O&A without mentioning their names. (which I also think is pussy) He should take them head on if he's going to do that. But yes, Howard is still the best show in the morning. And in my opinion, as as of yesterday, the second best radio show in the country. And what's this adopting stuff anyway? Psychopath Registered: Dec. 00 | The adopting stuff is for people who dont know how this board works. Examples are, posting the same topic more than once, starting really stupid threads, arguing with long time board members, and stuff like that. You seem to be doing pretty good. I dont think youll have a problem. At least you come here and you have intelligent points of view about Howard and O and A. Some fans dont. Im still a hardcore fan of Howard, but I listen to O and A everyday and I like them too. Sometimes other Howard fans come here and start calling O and A clones and they dont really back up their statments.I dont get into that because its stupid. Some stuff on both shows sound similar, but so what. They are both going after the same audience. Peace. My underwear looks like a shoeshine rag.

O&A Board Regular Registered: Jan. 01 | Fandick, I know it was said before, but good to see your someone who can think for himself and "discovered the truth" While some of the O&A army are hostile to all outsiders, most only start getting riled up with uninformed or untrue attacks. Stern has had an opportunity to be gracious, and has chosen instead to be a prick with a chip on his shoulder.

Psychopath Registered: Dec. 00 | Well Filzy, if I need it, I need it. Personally I didn't think I was dong that bad, but if I've got some things to learn, fine. I don't wanna be a DEEK! I gotta tell you guys, I know a lot of you are Stern fans, but even those who aren't are pretty cool. It reminds me of when Howard was just getting popular. There was an electric buzz, like O&A have now. You just laugh until it hurts while you listen to a bit being DRAINED of it's comedy. It's a beautiful thing. I know what you new talk radio fans, or fans that never heard Howard when he was the fireball he used to be are experiencing. You talk about it at work, to your friends, you incorporate the phrases and jokes from the show into your daily speech. It's fuckin' hilarious. Its like you belong to a family. Only its a family you don't really know, and never see. O.K. I think I'm getting too gay here, but you know what I mean. O&A are taking me down memory lane, and at the same time, taking me into original territory. It's like being reborn. "Put a piece o' gum on it...OH!"
