Psychopath Registered: Jun. 01 | Two words: SHOP ONLINE! It's so much easier, convenient and cheaper. No frickin' retards getting in your way, no sales tax, up to the second inventories, better deals if you know where to look... I've been doing it for like four years now - I only go the mall if I absolutely have to. The holiday season is stressful enough, stay at home and click away, baby! Thank you to all the brave volunteers who brought us all together as a country, and thank you to those of you brave soldiers who will fight and have fought for our country. Psychopath Registered: Jun. 01 | Well, it's nice to see that Maynard is SO principled that he wishes to waste his money. I however, do not have that sort of money to waste, so I must act like a rational consumer and go where I can find the best product at the cheapest price. For me, that place is the Internet. Do I feel bad for the local retailer who is forced to collect sales tax while a .com company doesn't? Sure, except for two things - nothing is stopping that local retailer from starting up their own online business and your Internet companies have that slight problem of UPS and Fedex refusing to work for free. Hey, I would have felt bad for all those wagon-wheel factory workers when the automobile came around too, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't buy a car if I could! No more horse shit and bumpy rides and taking eighteen hours to get to Grandma's house for Thanksgiving dinner? Where do I sign up? You can't stop progress, and as I see it not having to go to those mallrat infested shopping plazas is worth its weight in gold to me! Thank you to all the brave volunteers who brought us all together as a country, and thank you to those of you brave soldiers who will fight and have fought for our country. O&A Board Regular Registered: Aug. 00 | Calm down, Spork. I just wanted you to see the flipside of the coin as to why people feel the need to shop locally. Plus, the point about UPS and FedEx is right on, as well as the U.S.P.S. These internet companies provide local jobs for people in the field of distibution. P.S. There is an irony question waiting for you :) Funny how ev'rything was roses When we held on to the guns Write To Me Here AIM: SmarterChild

Seriously though if brick & mortar stores had the same kinds of coupons Visit this Website that Internet companies had, that would definitely force me to get into my car and, ugh, shop. O&A Board Regular Registered: Aug. 00 | Thanks for the site, I bookmarked it! However, you still have to be aware of pricing. There are a lot of things you can get locally, including tax, that are cheaper than the online outlets before shipping costs. I am sure you already know that. The same thing holds true for Sams, BJ's, and Costco. Just because things are supposed to be less expensive, it isn't necessarily the case. I think that is what some of these online and warehouse companies try to play into. Funny how ev'rything was roses When we held on to the guns Write To Me Here AIM: SmarterChild

Psychopath Registered: Jun. 01 | Remember a couple of years ago though, now that was the best. All these e-commerce companies were just getting shitloads of money from venture capitalists and through IPO's and no one seemed to care about getting a return on it. As a result, we saw all these "first to market" type people trying to rack up volumes and volumes of sales with no regard for profit margins. THOSE were the days to be a consumer. I can't remember how many DVD's I bought for $2 each, or the bedroom set I bought from furniture.com where I got $1500 off in COUPONS!!! It was a beautiful thing. It's harder now to get those types of deals, but there are still a bevy of them out there. I don't care where anyone buys thier stuff really, what I would like to see everyone do though is spend like madmen and madwomen this Christmas to get the economy's ass back in gear. I've taken advantage of low interest rates, I want a raise now :) Thank you to all the brave volunteers who brought us all together as a country, and thank you to those of you brave soldiers who will fight and have fought for our country. O&A Board Regular Registered: Aug. 00 | Sites Offer Online Savvy for Holiday Shoppers Retailers are counting on us to spend $11 billion online this holiday season. That's a lot of mouse clicks, and it warrants a few words of caution. Consumer Reports magazine and several consumer agencies have posted online shopping guides that deserve close reading this holiday season, offering tips to get the best deals and avoid online scams. Read further for Web sites that can get you started on an online shopping spree - and maybe give you some ideas for one-of-a-kind holiday gifts. consumerreports.org The online version of Consumer Reports magazine has been criticized in the past for keeping virtually all its award-winning consumer advice behind a firewall, reserved for paying subscribers. But the holiday season has worked its magic, and Consumer Reports has generously posted more than a dozen free highlights from its annual Smart Shoppers' Holiday Guide. Several links offer buying advice for digital cameras, DVD players, televisions and other electronic gadgets, and there are tips on buying champagne, cooking turkeys and helping children make their own gifts at home. Consumer Reports also presents a guide to shopping online and at local retailers. The online guide is especially useful, reminding shoppers to watch out for shipping costs and delivery schedules and to make sure a retailer's return policy is clearly stated and understood. Psychopath Registered: May. 01 | I'll be doing most of my holiday shopping online. I found last year that even if you end up spending a little more (which I managed NOT to do), it's still worth it because you're saving a lot of time and aggravation of running store to store, battling crowds, parking, etc. For those of us with limited time to shop, it's a great thing. This year I bought toys and since I ordered more than the minimum, my shipping is free. I should have the stuff by tomorrow (ordered it Sunday). This particular company has given me no problems and their prices are equal or better than those of local toy stores. How can I go wrong with that? The only problem I've encountered is in ordering software that was incompatible with someone's computer...then it becomes a pain in the ass to return/exchange. For the most part though, I love it! O&A Board Regular Registered: Aug. 00 | quote: Spamming, as far as I know it is coming into thread(s) / forum(s) to post a self-serving link to a commercial site, buisness and/or orginaztion with no other reason but to promote said enterprise. These members "ususally" have under 5 posts, most like 1 but up to 5, 'cause they may have decided that they wanted to "spam" every forum with it. Even so, it is not beyond a long term member to post a thread that qualifies as spam. Since you didn't start the thread nor did you just pop-up a link to a buisness of yours, a friend of your's, a family member of your's, a co-worker of your's, an associate of your's, a religious organization of your's, a political party you support or someone you know that can, but not limited to, provide monetary or other tangible/intangible royalties in your favor, or in the favor of co-worker's, family members, associates, religious organizations, political parties friends etc. et. etc., to drive buisness that way, I can safely say it is pretty safe to post the name of the store you got these wonderful toys from at reasonable prices. Unless of course it "qualifies as spam." ;) Funny how ev'rything was roses When we held on to the guns Write To Me Here AIM: SmarterChild
