The sites for donations are supposed to change from day to day here in Cleveland. Local Red Cross officials asked that people call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE to find a site near them in the city so that they can donate. (I unfortunately cannot give due to a two week old tattoo....gotta wait a year. Damn me and my body art. I really wish I could help in this situation.)

I want to donate blood but I'm not sure about the age thing.

How old do you have to be? And will they let me give if I'm under 110 pds? They should, since a lot of people need blood.

you need to be 17, and i have a feeling they wont relent on those restrictions, because under 17 and/or 110 means you NEED all your blood.people who meet the restrictions often get dizzy, or pass out(i've helped at blood drives...seen it happen), so i have a feeling they wont risk it with the underaged/underweight

The following info was copied from the NY Blood Center Web Site. As I've said before, CALL FIRST; NY has responded extremely well, and they may be having difficulty taking all of the people who want to donate blood; they will tell you when to come.

http://www.nybloodcenter.org/

BLOOD EMERGENCY CONTINUES
Type O & Rh Negative Donors Needed In Particular
NEW YORK, NY, SEPTEMBER 11, 2001 - New York Blood Center announced early this evening that donor response to today's tragic events has been excellent, with an estimated 4,000 donations received from donors throughout the greater New York/New Jersey community. Many donors, in fact, waited hours to make their donation as processing constraints were felt throughout the crisis.

But to accommodate donors tomorrow, New York Blood Center has selected fewer collection sites to focus for efficiency and effectiveness and has particularly requested Type O donors and all Rh Negative donors step forward.

Manhattan donation sites include: New York Blood Center headquarters at 310 East 67th Street, Citicorp Center at 53rd & Lexington Avenue, the American Red Cross Building at 150 Amsterdam Avenue at 66th Street, New York Presbyterian Hospital/Cornell Campus at 68th Street and 1st Avenue, and Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in Washington Heights. All these locations will open at 8AM.

Donor locations in Brooklyn include 120 Lawrence Street from 9AM-9PM and the Sunrise Adult Day Healthcare Center at 9517 Avenue "J" from 11AM-4:30PM.

Staten Island donation sites include 1625 Forest Avenue from 9AM-9PM and the Seaview Hospital Rehabilitation Center at 460 Brielle Avenue from 9AM-7PM.

Long Island donation sites include Hofstra University Arena in Hempstead from 8AM-6PM, the Huntington Hilton on Route 110 from 8AM-6PM; and donation centers located at 3125 Veterans Highway in Bohemia from 8AM-8PM and 333 Merrick Road in Rockville Center from 8:30AM-2PM.

Donation site in the Bronx include Fordham University beginning at 9AM. Rockland sites include the Palisades Mall beginning at 9AM, and Westchester sites include 525 Executive Boulevard in Elmsford beginning at 7:30AM.

And New Jersey donation sites include 167 New Street in New Brunswick from 7AM-8:30PM, the Ethicon Wellness Center on Route 22 West in Somerville from 7AM-5PM, at Metlife in Convent Station from 7:30AM-1PM and the University of Medicine & Dentistry in Newark from 4-9PM.

The Greater New York Hospital Association is also recommending donors go to community hospitals that operate their own donor rooms.

"We are in regular contact with the six hospitals serving victims of this disaster and stand ready to ensure the blood they need is available," said Dr. Robert Jones, New York Blood Center President.

For information on donation locations beyond Wednesday, September 12, 2001, donors are encouraged to contact New York Blood Center at 1-800-933-2566.

Who Can Help?
Donors must be at least age 17**, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and be in good general health. Photo or signature ID is required.

To find the nearest donation location call 1-800-933-2566 or refer to our blood drive locator.

Yeah, Jenni, they'll take you...the only thing they'll ask is if you have taken intravenous drugs, which of course increase your chance of having AIDS contaminated blood

I have O+ blood, going after work

Be ready to wait -- the wait is 6 to 8 hours to give blood -- even thought they say they are open to 9 -- get there before 6:pm -- Even better as per the Red Cross -- please give NEXT week -- the blood will still be needed -- less people will be give'n then -- lets keep up the giving!
