sorry. its just that people have been saying that like they say "its not the heat , its the humidity". especially since there is nothing that says flying is any safer than it was 2 weeks ago.

I fly sometimes for my job (not as much as I used to) and our company's travel agency is recommending that we be there THREE HOURS PRIOR TO YOUR FLIGHTS SCHEDULED DEAPRTURE TIME. Since your flight is international, I would be there at least 3 hours prior to your departure time - and bring a book :D

Um because the beefed up security a lot. Before security was a lot more lax.

have you been to the airport lately? do you know someone who is involved in airport security?
more security doesnt necessarily mean better security. people who say that flying now is safer than ever are talking out their asses.

Taken out of context...

I sure as hell hope they replace Fredo's Rent-a-Cop-o-
Rama with some real police officers. Not only would I
feel saver knowing the police are monitoring the
airports (and the NYPD rocks) but just their presence,
not even their skills, would make millions of flyers
happier.

Seems as though some passengers are taking matters into their own hands and getting the A-rabs booted from the flight.

4 Arab-American Passengers Questioned

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Four Arab-American men were removed from a Northwest plane when the flight crew raised security concerns, then were allowed to board a later flight, the airline said.

Airline spokesman Doug Killian would not say what the worries were. Northwest employees escorted the men off Thursday's flight to Salt Lake City, and they were questioned by local law enforcement officers, he said Friday. The plane took off while they were being questioned.

Three of the men, however, told reporters in Salt Lake City that they were removed because other passengers refused to fly with them on board. The men refused to give their names and said they felt discriminated against.

The three - a man, his brother and a friend - said they had flown Thursday morning from Philadelphia, where they went through extensive security. In Minneapolis, they were questioned at length before they were allowed to board the connecting flight, they said.

When the other passengers refused to fly if the three remained on board, Northwest required them to get off, they said.

Killian said that under Federal Aviation Administration rules, ``the airline has no choice but to re-accommodate a passenger or passengers if their actions or presence make a majority of passengers uncomfortable and threaten to disrupt normal operations of flight.''

Just spoke with my cousin - they only had like 10 people on their flight back so they 'breezed' through security. They did make people unload ALL of their carry-on baggage and confiscated stuff that might cause a problem (nail file - stuff like that).

I have no problem unloading my stuff - it's the people that cry about civil liberties/rights that won't do it that bother me. Don't like it - take a FUCKIN' bus/train or drive.

Arpi, Security HAS been improved; it is HIGHLY doubtful that anything would occur via airplane at this time. I'm sure you will be OK.

That said, keep your wits about you.

The one positive thing is that you will probably avoid crowds & have alot of room on the flight.

Keep in touch on the Board.

The Mrs. and I were all set to fly to the Bahamas in October for a vacation, but we just cancelled that. Just not too sure of the security measures yet. I'm sure they are better than what they were before the attack, but I'm still not ready to risk my life.
As it stands now, we're driving to Florida for a Disney World vacation. Let the "experts" say flying is more safe than driving now.

Actually, I have heard of an airline that put a Rottie & it's handler on a few flights and the passengers have felt quite at ease with it.

On the other hand, on Channel 4 news the other night, they had on a New Jersey woman who said that she decided not to fly when she realized that she had been allowed to pass through security to her gate in Indianapolis (or to Indianapolis?) with a boxcutter in her briefcase.

Personally, I wouldn't have a problem flying if I had a trip planned. 'Cept if I was flying to like Israel or Kabul or something...

Although security is still terrible I suspect that it has improved(but probably not substantially).

Oh and I had family fly back to Denmark yesterday.

Occur to anyone else that al-Qaeda might be laying low and preparing for war on their own harsh, mountainous soil right about now? No other group has the capability for a stunt like that, nor will they try now that security and surveillance are so strong.
I'm more worried about copycat or follow-up random small bombings by other anti-U.S. groups, but nothing related to flying. Hell, I'd rather fly in the next month than over the holidays, when I have to... and I gotta disagree with your risk calculation Flock... driving through Florida is pretty scary ;)
