O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00	Sorry to break up the WOW-stealing commotion, but there's something a tad more important at hand. A virus that could make you have to reinstall Windows. This is REAL. Would your Board Computer Geek lie about such a thing? If you see an email with the title "FW: NAKED WIFE" or "NAKED WIFE", delete it immediately. DO NOT TOUCH THE ATTACHMENT. The attachment is an EXE file that will do two things: 1) Email itself to everyone in your Microsoft Outlook contact list. 2) Destroy vital system files in your \Windows and \Windows\System folders, RENDERING WINDOWS UNBOOTABLE. THE ONLY FIX WOULD BE TO REINSTALL WINDOWS. Here is the info from www.sarc.com - the Symantec AntiVirus Research Center (makers of Norton AntiVirus): Technical description: When first executed, W32.Naked@mm displays a window that appears to be loading a Flash movie. The window will display the words "JibJab." If you click the "Help > About Windows" menu, the following message will be displayed: You're are now F***ED. (c) 2001 by BGK (Bill Gates Killer) In the background, while the flash movie is "loading", this worm attempts to send itself to everyone in the Microsoft Outlook address book. The message that this worm sends is as follows: Subject: Naked Wife Message: My wife never look like that! ;-) Best Regards, [UserName] where [UserName] is the user name that was used when registering Microsoft Outlook. After the worm has attempted to mass-mail itself, it will attempt to delete all files from the \Windows and \Windows\System folders that have any of the following extensions: .ini .log .dll .exe .com .bmp If this payload is executed, the only way to get the system back to an operational state is to reinstall it. SARC has also received several corrupted samples. The corrupted variant of this worm will be detected as W32.Naked.dam. The corrupted variant cannot cause any damage to the system. However, if found, it should be deleted. Removal instructions: To remove this worm: 1. Run LiveUpdate to make sure that you have the most recent virus definitions. 2. Start Norton AntiVirus (NAV), and then run a full system scan, making sure that NAV is set to scan all files. 3. Delete any files detected as W32.Naked@mm or W32.Naked.dam. O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00	With any luck, mine won't be a problem. NAV Corporate quarantines attachments like this one, so they don't even get into the user's box - the attachment turns into "Quarantined attachment.txt" which tells the users that their attachment was a virus and was quarantined. I love this crap. :)

Microsoft Exchange generates a Global Address List, which is a list of every user with email in the company. Of course, this is on every machine, as it is a part of Exchange. So not only does every user get the virus emailed to them, but also every distribution list in the Global list, which means people get two and three copies of the same thing. All that PLUS it sends an email to each of their outside contacts, many of which are vendors in India, Pakistan, and other backwards third-world countries that have no goddamn way of cleaning this thing (any good AntiVirus product is usually Not For Export - they don't want to send high encryption to those countries)...

O&A Board Regular Registered: Jan. 01	Well of course if the virus proliferates itself and you have to fix all those machines thats worse but if were talking about on an indivual machine basis almost having fried your computer is worse. It still works but I think parts of it are burned. And I think it was that the computer couldn't boot with those voltage setting probably the power supply but I have a 300 Watt one. Guess I was too ambitious. LIKE SCHOOL IN SUMMERTIME
