Psychopath Registered: Oct. 00 | I know there are alot of AP fans here so here is some info on the sequel. Mila Kunis= Piece of Ass AMERICAN PSYCHO 2: THE GIRL WHO WOULDN'T DIE Release Date: TBA 2002 Video Release Note: Anyone who's browsed a video store lately knows that it's becoming fairly common for sequels to go direct-to-video, whether it be the From Dusk Till Dawn series or The Lady and the Tramp 2. Lions Gate stated in their press release for this film that they're waiting to see the final print to decide whether this will be a theatrical release (their goal) or direct-to-video (in this market, DTV is actually more profitable for certain types of projects). Distributor: Lions Gate Films Cast: Mila Kunis, William Shatner (Professor Robert Strickland), Geraint Wyn-Davies; other cast not announced yet. Set in the modern day, no cast, including Christian Bale, will return from the first film. Who's Mila Kunis?: Ukrainian émigré Mila Kunis is best-known for playing Jackie (Kelso's ex-gf) on That 70's Show. Director: Morgan J. Freeman (Desert Blue, Hurricane Streets; not related to the famed actor with no "J") Screenwriters: Karen Craig, Alex Sanger (debuts; Craig has another script, Into the Abyss, in development at Lions Gate, also about a college student and serial murders; Sanger is also Director of Production for LGF) Based upon: This is the sequel to the 2000 cerebral slasher film, American Psycho, which was likewise based upon the novel by Bret Easton Ellis. That film brought in $15.1 million in box office. Considered by some at the time as a disappointment, I thought the film was one of the best of early 2000; Bale's Bateman was especially eerie. Other Sequels: Lions Gate is hoping this film turns out well enough that it can be the first of a series of sequels. One possibility that Ellis mentioned in a 2000 interview is a film where Patrick Bateman would end up in Silicon Valley, but it appears that for now, the approach is to tell a story where Bateman is an influence, not a direct presence. Lions Gates' Michael Paseornek told Daily Variety (4/12/01), "If we make good movies, we could have a franchise here... it's up to us not to blow it." Premise: Set nearly 15 years after the events of American Psycho, this is the story of a college freshman and Patrick Bateman survivor (Kunis) who becomes a teaching assistant (as a freshman!!??) to a professor even as she develops her own murderous obsessions, destroying anyone in her way... (it appears that this story is being told in a way that means Christian Bale won't have to return to reprise his role as Patrick Bateman.) Filming: Production started in mid-May, 2001 in Toronto on a budget of $10 million, and wrapped later that summer. Preview Thoughts: (4/13/01) Horror films continue to be the most likely to spawn sequels (albeit, sometimes they skip theatrical releases), with yet another recent serial killer film spawning a franchise, with this "sort of" sequel, following a different character many years later. To me, American Psycho worked best as a satire of the Yuppie mindset, capturing a slice of the over-achieving lifestyle when it was at its vain early crescendo. That Patrick Bateman was also a serial killer (if you think he was; that's debatable) was a sort of sick side-effect. Which brings me to this sequel. Set in the typical college setting, it sounds more like a standard teen slasher sequel than a true AP follow-up. Of course, if it was yet another 1980's satire, I'd complain too. Moving away from Patrick Bateman is probably the best thing about this project to me (I wasn't exactly relishing the idea of a "Patrick Bateman goes to..." series either). (5/25/01) An anonymous source writes in with the following from Toronto: "American Psycho 2: The Girl Who Wouldn't Die (2001) William Shatner plays, Professor Robert Strickland. Quite possibly the most revered hunter of the serial killers the FBI ever produced. Who now teaches Rachelle Newman (Milla Kundis) [sic] class. [Flming at] York University at the Glendon College Campus in Toronto, Canada." (the same "scoop" was sent to a few other sites by the way) If Shatner is in the film, this should be confirmed soon. (7/29/01) Patrick Bateman might not be appearing here, but he does have a small role in The Rules of Attraction. (8/16/01) The full title has been confirmed as American Psycho II: The Girl Who Wouldn't Die. (8/17/01) Christian Bale's publicist has confirmed for me that he will not be playing Patrick Bateman again in this or The Rules of Attraction. (9/3/01) William Shatner has been confirmed by Lions Gate. The topic's description was right on. There were no surprises here. If you don't care - Don't read it. I don't mean to single you, or anyone for that matter, out. But, this "care" thing just seems WAY over used. Long Live the "Syndication Underground"

O&A Board Veteran Registered: Sep. 00 | Hoboken Dan actually brought this to our collective attention a few months ago in a thread I am searching for and found here . In that thread I also posted a link to a script review which calls the script awful with bad humor and gives a fate to Bateman - Bateman should haven't a fate period. If it's not about Bateman leave his name out of it. EDIT: And if you doubt it sucks, read the subtitle. Just read it. Worse than Attack of the Clones, it's fucking Jan in the Pan from the first Mike MST3K!! What made Psycho great was that it WASN'T A HORORR MOVIE the title "Girl who wouldn't die" screams HORROR MOVIE!! O&A Board Veteran Registered: Sep. 00 | Lions Gate envisoned American Psycho as a franchise. It HAD the possibility to be one. This just killed it. Shatner defined it...it's going the campy route. Did it have potential? Yes... if it had Bateman. There is no way Kunis' character can be 1/1000 as interesting as him. O&A Board Veteran Registered: Sep. 00 | Big difference Joe S. -- Blair Witch Project was nowhere near as great as American Psycho. a Blair Witch sequel really had no hope, an American Psycho sequel had potential. That potential has been squandered. God it would make a great series though. "I didn't realize how tragic it [the WTC attack] was until the celebrities told me"- Ron Bennington
