| O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00  | October 10, 2001 -- Osama bin Laden's terror network issued a chilling new threat yesterday - to hijack a "storm of planes" and crash them into American targets in a second wave of murderous attacks on "the infidel forces." The terror lord's al Qaeda group said the allied bombing assault in Afghanistan had "opened a new page of enmity and conflict," adding the "battle" will not end until America withdraws its forces from Muslim lands. The message was carried on Qatar's al-Jazeera Television, whose continuing role as a mouthpiece for bin Laden triggered an official complaint from Secretary of State Colin Powell. "Americans should know . . . the storm of the planes will not stop," al Qaeda spokesman Sulaiman Bu Ghaith said on the broadcast. After the bombing assault began Sunday, al-Jazeera carried an exclusive video of bin Laden, branding American's "sinners" and praising the Twin Towers and Pentagon attacks. Yesterday's video message showed Bu Ghaith, the spokesman who appeared with bin Laden on Sunday, repeating the warning that the fight will not end until U.S. forces leave Muslim lands. "Let them know that by invading the land of Afghanistan, they opened a new page of enmity and conflict between us and the infidel forces," he said. He also compared the airstrikes on Afghanistan in the hunt for bin Laden to the early Christian Crusades, and said al Qaeda believed in "terrorism against oppressors." In Washington, the State Department revealed that Powell has complained to the emir of Qatar, Sheik Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, about the station's inflammatory rhetoric and false stories. "We think it's beyond the pale to provide an open platform for these sort of violent ideas," a department official said. "We're concerned everywhere that Osama bin Laden not be able to use the media to spread his ideas." But Powell was told bluntly that the Qatari government, which owns the Arabic-language station, supports media freedom. "We've expressed our concerns about some of the kinds of things we've seen on their air, particularly inflammatory stories, totally untrue stories, things like that," said State Department spokesman Richard Boucher. "We would certainly like to see them tone down the rhetoric." The United States fears that al-Jazeera's broadcasts will fuel anti-American sentiments in the Middle East and encourage other terrorists to join bin Laden's militants. In a bid to pacify the broadcaster, consideration is being given to President Bush granting an interview, the White House said yesterday. Western leaders, including Powell and British Prime Minister Tony Blair, have given interviews to al-Jazeera. Boucher said other U.S. officials would try to be available. Neither the White House nor the State Department would comment on the new threat.  | ||||

| O&A Board Regular Registered: Jan. 01 | the problem with these people is that they're so poor, and their families are promised money if they carry out these attacks. bin laden's not stupid, he removes himself from the actual attacks, he just tells his closest people, what he wants done, and they take care of it for him.
