| Psychopath Registered: Sep. 01  | OK, this is a bit long, and some of you may not care, but this made me remember that most people are basically good, and I wanted to share this story. Anyway, around the end of September, I had a message to call one of my customers regarding a problem w/a shipment. Because this was an expensive shipment, I didn't relish the thought of calling since it was a problem, but I did, and once we resolved the problem, I wound up speaking with the woman a while longer. Her company is in Iowa, and knowing that we're in NY, she asked how things were here, and among other things, I told her about my neighbor whose husband died at the WTC, and that they had just had their 1st baby (his 1st day back at work). She said she wished she could do something to help all the people who were affected. About a week later she called me again (sorry this is so long) and said she would like to make a quilt for my neighbor's baby because she really wanted to do something. Anyway, I received 2 beautiful hand-made quilts today. I thought this was a really nice thing for someone, who doesn't know me, or my neighbor, to do. Like I said, it made me remember that most people are good and they care about others. Has a stranger ever done anything nice for you? And, please, no kid-toucher jokes here! ;) | ||||

If she "consciously" tells people what she did, then it's obvios, even to herself(unless she's ignorant), who she really did it for. Everyone, whether they know it or not, puts themself first in everything they do. However, thank you for the beautiful story. :) I am glad to hear the baby received 2 quilts as a side affect to that woman's self-centeredness;) To follow up on the flipside of your question... I never did find out her name so I guess she was a stranger. ;-) Seriously though, that was nice of the lady in Iowa to do that. Whether or not she did it for herself doesn't matter. | O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | Last year I was getting gas at a self serve place and there was an older lady there who was stuck with a flat tire. No one would give her the time of day. After leaving the parking lot, my feelings got the better of me and I turned around. I put her spare tire on for her, put the flat one in the trunk etc.. She told me that she saw me leave and was thanking me the whole time. I told her it was no trouble not to worry about it. She tried to give me money but I refused. After all was said & done I was driving home & I noticed a $10 bill on the pasenger side floor of my truck. She must have thrown it in there when I wasn't looking. I never told anyone about it, until today that is. I'm always willing to help someone out, unless the situation doesn't look kosher.
