| O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00  | Where shall we begin? For all human endeavors all seem to have a beginning, and then an end. Thus it mimics our own lifelines. Thus, you identify the pattern, so you can understand. Pattern is a device of living things. It rules our perceptions. It creates Mathematics, Science, Art and Literature. It creates our very language and the fabric of our understnading so that we can grasp concepts. You use concepts to draw theories and conclusions. We use theories to create facts, based on our experiential data that we pereceive. Of course it is fatally flawed, due to the fact it is only based upon our own experiences. One of the many on the rock of life we cling to. On our little island, we attempt to see and understand the world. Even Copernicus had to travel to another spot in order to compare when trying to measure the Earth's circumfrance so long ago. And that is a paltry thing compared to what we might try to grasp. On this tiny island, we tend to seek the root of why, where, when, what, and how. This is asking quite a bit. We ask too much and do too little. At first we answered that behind great mysteries were divine forces. Then we prayed incessently, and still do, to these divine forces, in order to be more comfortable under the great strain of not knowing our own role within these parameters. Due to this, we commit the greatest blasphemy. We tried to put human parameters to the mystery that we will never be privy to. We tried to to create scenarios where one day we would understand it all. We even created a word called "omnipotence" and applied it to our idols, seen or unseen. Because seen or unseen, whatever you do pray to is most certainly an idol...as representation of myth to put on a pedastel. Something to put above you,whether real or not. "Prologue" is another word we created. This word describes the beginning to a pattern. It is a pattern of which I speak, that will shape this very thread. There are no prologues. They are an exercise of futility by a race of beings constantly yearning to understnad the past, and perceive the future; all-the-while, tending to waste away at the present. The present is fleeting. It is the very brunt of a moment, and then, the only proof of its existence is the memory of it. We are made of memories. It is all the structrue that will remain of the human race upon our last breath in the universe. After that last breath, there will be nothing. Memories are perceptions to experiences. The mind holds this bastion of our follies at a fallible level. The mind is the crux upon the human being's functions. It is used to differentiate the difference from one being human or just an animal. Humanity pivots through the mind's perception to expereince, and through the action that results. Our mind represents a consciouness that is privy to this very process. The mind is simply an awareness of ourselves. Yet we have no mind. It is something we can never prove that exists. It is not a fixed point of reference. It can not be seen, touched, felt, nor heard. It is, in itself, merely a perception. And, beyond yourself, it cannot be fanthomed. The mind only exists in your mind. Can a process that can only be pereceived by itself be a process? Can it exist? Is the mind the indiacation of something more? Or is it merely an illusion of our thought process. Is it the fantasy that runs our life, dwelling in past, contemplating future, and usually just sleepwalking through the present, and as moments go by in a steady stream? Like I said, there are no prologues. Not truly. Prologues are "before" something, and that "before" left several minutes ago. In fact, there is no proof that you even read this. This thread was never here, these words were never said. I'd say goodbye now, but you were never here, and you never will leave.  Here's a tip that will save you alot of grief and time... Perhaps there is no beginning or end, we just feel the need to see things in finite terms. We can see examples in that classic of ancient literature, the bible, where we assign finite values to what is supposed to be infinite (Jesus, the immortal must live and die as a mortal, the great flood lasts exactly 40 days, etc...) It seems that if you did not have a mind, that you wouldn't be able to question whether or not you have one. Let's say that what we perceive to be reality is actually just imagery being funnelled into a brain floating in some scientists lab somewhere, thus, making what we believe is reality someone else's experiment. How can we ever prove that our perceptions actually exist? | ||||
