O&A Board Regular Registered: Jan. 01 | After thinking about what everyone listed as Great movies they'd never seen, I thought of a companion thread: Movies that you consider "Must See", but others might never have thought about. 1) It Happened One Night. A spoiled rich girl escapes from her millionaire father, who wants to stop her from marrying a worthless playboy. En route to New York, she gets involved with an out-of-work newsman. When their bus breaks down, the bickering couple sets off on a madcap hitchhiking expedition. Starring Clark Gable & Claudette Colbert; Directed by Frank Capra. 2)Humphrey Bogart movies especially Casablanca , The Maltese Falcon , or To Have and to Have Not 3) The Bridge on the River Kwai Directed by David Lean, starring Alec Guiness and William Holden.

Great book, I'm not sure about the movie though cuz I only remember the ending. My must see movie? Labrynth, Never Ending Story, and any Disney cartoon. Think that's silly? Watch them as kids and you'll love em and be scared shitless at the same time. As adults, you'll never believe how entertaining they really are. Or maybe its just me! O&A Board Veteran Registered: Sep. 00 | the problem is when you say 'classic' i'm not sure what you mean by classic. like do you consider 'new classics' in the same category becauuse moves like Godfather, Goodfellas, etc. are classics "It appears my wee wee has been strucken with rigor mortis." Other people have different interpretations as to what they deem classics. Its all according to perception I would say. quote: Steamboat Willie and Fantasia amaze me every time I see them based on the fact of how advanced they were for the time period that they came out in. O&A Board Regular Registered: Jun. 01 | Rog, you're definately right when you say the Disney flicks... I grew up with them, enjoyed them immensely and now are still movies I can enjoy watching. Especially classics like, Aladdin, Sword In The Stone, and even The Little Mermaid kicked a little ass. Recomending movies eh... I have not had the pleasure of seeing many pre 1960 movies, so I'm just going with what I have seen. Comedy: Monty Python and the Holy Grail - A cult classic and definately a fucking silly good flick. Python's best in my opinion. Blazing Saddles and Spaceballs - Mel Brooks, nuff said. The Kevin Smith Anthology - Especially for gen x and beyond. Drama: Full Metal Jacket - Watch this, and you'll be changed forever. A Clockwork Orange - I guess I just like Kubrick. Pulp Fiction - So overlooked and under appreciated. Great work by Tarrentino and all the other actors. (Btw, that's Marcellus's soul in the case :-) ) Horror: The Evil Dead series and Army of Darkness - Yo, she bitch! Let's go! Bruce Campbell is a god. Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th series, and Hellraiser's - To literally never make you want to close your fucking eyelids ever again. Action: Predator The Terminator I and II Rocky's I-IV (Rocky V never existed) Braveheart Fight Club That's about it. Thine In Honor, Ree "Your Lord, Your Christ... Stood and prayed, never strayed... never taste of the fruit... never thought to question why?" -Maynard James Keenan 'Judith' Seph is God for sig.

O&A Board Regular Registered: Jan. 01 | quote: Personally, I'd refine this a little. Any cartoon? including shorts? including things like Lady & the Tramp 2: Scamp's adventure :) If you limit to Disney Classics, I'll go along: Snow White, Pinnochio, Dumbo, Little Mermaid, Beauty & the Beast, etc. quote: My definition would be movies that hold up with time. With that definition, IMHO Goodfellas (1990) and Schindler's List (1993) can be classics. Of course part of my thinking with this thread was to recommend movies that others might not have seen or thought of. quote:. I'd put this in a special catagory - movie most in need of a "special edition" DVD. I would love to hear Tarrantino's thoughts on this movie, and his bear-bones DVD dissapointed me in that respect. My original post (before I edited) included any Hitchock film; North by Northwest and Rear Window already added. I'd also add Dial M for Murder , Psycho , The Man Who New Too Much (either version, although I love seeing Jimmy Stewart), and Vertigo . If you love cinema, you'd love Hitchcock; Rope for example, is a technologically intriguing. Monty Python & The Holy Grail -not for everyone. I love it, but some don't appreciate "British" Humour. I just got the DVD - and it includes "Subtitles For People Who Don't Like The Film"- instead substituting appropriate verses from Henry IV, Part II Marx Bros. comedies - again, not for everyone, but I find them funny as hell. In the same vein are Woody Allen Classics: a)slapstick - Sleeper, Banannas, Play it again Sam b) the NY series - Annie Hall, Manhattan, Hannah & Her Sisters Not on the same level, but a movie I'd also recommend - The Man Who Would Be King , starring Sean Connery, Michael Caine, and Christopher Plummer, Directed by John Huston, based on a Rudyard Kipling story. Psychopath Registered: Jun. 01 | A few more... The Manchurian Candidate - Government corruption, brainwashing, and Frank Sinatra! One of the most overlooked movies ever. Easy Rider - Peter Fonda, Dennis Hopper, Jack Nicholson, harleys, cocaine, marijuana, acid, and hookers!! Rosemary's Baby - Great, great horror movie. Helped pave the way for The Omen, The Exorcist, etc. The Day The Earth Stood Still - Classic sci-fi, themes are still relevant today. Bedazzled (1967) - The original with Peter Cook, Dudley Moore, and Raquel Welch is SO much better than last year's remake. Birth of a Nation - Good luck finding it. Racist as hell, but one of the most important movies ever made. Da hong deng long gao gao gua (Raise the Red Lantern) - Even if you're not a fan of foreign films, check it out. If you don't like it, just die. I could go on and on, but I'll stop here...
