| Hanger-On Registered: Jan. 02  | Hey This is my first post, and I'm exhausted so pretty much going to "post and run". First, I've been listening to O&A for several months now. I put them on when I'm driving home from work (an hour commute). Can you believe I used to listen to the news the whole way home before I flipped the dial and heard them? They make me laugh a lot! I love it. Most people who don't know me well would probably think I would NEVER listen to this type of show, they kind of just judge me by how I look on the outside and for some reason the conclusion is usually "goody two shoes". Still waters and all that. OK Enough stroking Yes yes yes they make me laugh blah blah blah I Don't remember when exactly, but not too long ago Norton (who by the way I also love his humor) said something...a little tiny joke that really bummed me out. I hope I don't bum anyone out just by mentioning it !! Something about Andrea Yates something about one of the kids coming up again then being pushed down again? Anyway I had been laughing at the prior bit, then all of the sudden when he said that it put a picture in my mind. It really bummed me, like turning off a lightbulb. I just turned off the radio and went back to listen the next day. I have two little boys and just anytime I hear that woman's name it really saddens me. I hope they won't make any more references to her in a joking way, actually I wouldn't mind if I never heard her name again, her and Susan Smith. I wonder if anyone else felt the same way? It's not that I am judging their right to make a joke about it, nor am I saying that Norton really thought it was a funny thing. I understand it was just a joke, I'm just saying it bummed me, it put a sad picture in my mind. This has actually been bothering me a bit, so I wanted to see if there was a way I could mention it to them...(silly, huh?) this is even better because most likely no one will read it or reply to it......but it's off of my chest now. | Hanger-On Registered: Jan. 70 | They encourage sharing those thoughts with them on the show. Give them a call. Be serious. Don't get all huffy. Just present in the well thought out and reasonable fashion you did here. I think it will make you feel better to get it off your chest, and they have to respect you for having your convictions and being assertive enough to challenge the taste of what is said on their radio show. They push boundaries daily, sometimes over the limit and the only way that they can know when they've pushed the envelope too far is when people take them to task for what they've said. I really think they will appreciate it. And if they get quiet it's just becuase that you are making great points and are turning the floor over to you so you can have your say. | Hanger-On Registered: Jan. 02 | I was SO surprised at the no. of posts !!! This is obviously a VERY popular forum I'd like to call but the timing is never right or convenient......you know? Anyway if I ever did call I wouldn't get huffy because there's no need. The way I see it, if looking from their perspective it's all a matter of majority for these types of issues I'd say it's very likely that I might be in the minority in feeling upset when I heard the joke. Again, not upset as in "how dare they" more like sad upset. Like I said if I ever called them I think it would be more to let them know how it affected me and wondering how the larger part of their listeners felt. :) | ||||
