Hi everybody!

I'm asking this question to this board, because somehow I've got the idea that it won't do me any good to ask it to the NYC-Goth mailing list. Go figure. But anyway...

I've just given my car to my mom, because I can't afford the insurance and her car is falling apart. What I want to know is, could she possibly get a single penny for her old car, and if so, how does she do it?

The old car is a 1991 Ford Aerostar minivan and it's beaten to hell. The long list of broken things includes both taillights, chronically; the starter, chronically; a huge dent in the door; the headlights often refuse to turn on and sometimes turn off while you're driving, and one of them is held on with - yes, duct tape.

So, is there any possible way to get any money for this old heap? Whether in one piece or a thousand?

Sell it to a newbie, or sell it for scrap.

Yeah, you probably could. But it isn't physical money, it is a reduction in taxes. Yes, you donate the car to a charity.
I donated my 1985 Toyota Corolla and I got the blue book value reduced on my taxes. go to Kelly's Blue Book and find out how much you could get for it.

This is how I did it but it was in Conn. You should call a state CPA to ask if this will work in your state.

You could try selling it as is for $400 - $500...any running vehicle is worth that much.

Or if you just want to get what ever you can, take it to a junk yard and they give ya like $100 bucks for it.

There's nothing to me now. An empty shell unfolded. How, when we learn to pray inside our demons are laughing. How long will this go on? Are we a bit much stronger? Do you think you can save me from living this way? I don't know how to love. I just know how to live. All I feel is hate. Will you forgive me? For all those things I've done, they keep on creeping by me. And though we've changed our ways... Still all our demons are laughing. How long will this go on? Aren't we a bit much stronger? I'd like to think you've came into my life to stay. I don't know how to love. I just know how to live. All I feel is hate. Will you forgive me? I don't know how to breathe with you too far away. Don't know how to love. Will you forgive me? No, I can't live this way! I don't know how to love. I just know how to live. All I feel is pain. Will you forgive me? I don't know how to breathe with you too far away. I don't know how to love. Past lives I've lived. Uncontrolled but sacred. You've finally seen all that's left of me. So hard to see. So hard to breathe. Will you forgive me?

I wouldn't bet on it really being worth anything, but you might consider places like Autoland or whatever other places give you a guaranteed amount for a trade-in towards one of their new or used cars. Usually they advertise that no matter what condition it's in, you get the money - and I think it's usually $3000-4000.

I don't think there would be a way to get any decent sum of money for it any other way - and of course the drawback is, you have to buy a new car.. heh...

Thanks! I'm so used to actually being able to listen on the radio that I never had to figure out the SU. I had to turn the computer upside down (literally), but now I'm listening.

Oh, i dunno... the last time you were here you were selling off your old goth wardrobe. It'd be nice if people actually came here to contribute once in a while other than "Help me!" or "I need a cd key serial # for my pirated software" etc.. etc..

Anyway, it was nice seeing you again. Do you still live in Journal Square? We recently found out that IkeaBoy is totally into Goth Chicks and we all have been giving a consertted effort into getting him laid to see if he likes the poon (we all think he is a flaming homo), you know any takers? I know how most goth people are laid back, but this will be a real challenge!!

Oh, and see ya in another 4 months :)

I think it all started with the Declaration of Independence -- the idea that we had the inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That pursuit is what took America from the revolution to the computer age in 200 years. But the progress has come at a price. The obvious being the people that were exploited to make it possible; the not so obvious being us, the first group of people that were given no obvious frontiers to conquer. We hear stories that about the good old days that don't seem to apply anymore. It's a generation gap that leaves us without role models. But the bright side is that without role models, there are no roles. Maybe that's what the 60s were all about -- getting rid of the roles. But what do we replace them with? Without any guidance, what do we replace them with? Without any guidance, the choices become overwhelming. Sometimes it just makes everything feel hopeless. So we destroy our bodies in the search of an ideal. Try to salvage relationships that don't work. We feel we must do something, instead of doing something that we feel. It is the prison of self-imposed momentum, and the sad part is that we get used to it. It reminds me of a song I heard the other day. It's called "The Going Nowhere Fast." But the people I have met here have shown me another side of Nowhere. They've pointed out the beautiful irony that stagnation makes it easy to stop and smell the roses, if we just let it. What would we be if we had nothing to rebel against? Well we could finally be ourselves, the first group of people who stopped looking for the answers long enough to appreciate the questions. And all we have to do is to make our own Declaration of Independence. We can embrace the right to life and liberty by simply realizing that happiness exists -- not to pursue, but to accept. After that the only challenge would be to make sure with the rest of our lives that we weren't just another fad. I don't know, it's an idea. What do you think?

is this the place for car questions? ok, when i brake or slow down sometimes, i stall out. i thought maybe it had something to do with the battery connections, but now i think it may be because the idle is too low (about 500rpms) any ideas? i've been dealing with it for about 6 months cos i'm scared of mechanics, do you think it'll cost a lot to fix? thank you for your time and attention to this matter...

Something that small should be an easy fix for a mechanic who knows what they're doing, or doesn't know and has a Chilton's manual. Heh.

How old is the car? If it has a carb. there should be a screw to adjust the idle. If it's fuel injected, I have no idea what to do.

Just leave your car on the BQE. It will be stripped in a day. Then collect the insurance.
