He was born in Austria, fled Nazi Germany, came to this country without speaking English, and yet learned the language so well that his films were noted for the witty dialogue. He could write screenplays as diverse as Stalag 17 and Some Like It Hot. He could direct diverse projects as The Lost Weekend and Sabrina. A Hollywood genius to say the least.  | ||||
