| Psychopath Registered: Mar. 02  | This is for anyone who is currently or has served in the military. I would like to know how your time at the MEPS was spent, and if there was anything in particular you liked or hated about being there. Edit: MEPS= Military Entrance Processing Station Thanks. R.I.P. | O&A Board Regular Registered: Sep. 00 | If he's going to one of the academies he probably won't be going through MEPS. It's mostly for enlisted people. I went throuh the newark meps(when it was still open) in jan 90. It wasen't a big deal. I was there for like about half a day and got home around 2 or so. That was they first time. You have to go there twice or more depending on the person. I left there feb 13 91 and got to Ft Knox on feb 14 1991. Sig Pic? I don't need no stinkin sig pic!!! | ||||

| Psychopath Registered: Feb. 01 | I went thru MEPS out of Fort Hamilton in 92, I got put up at a fleabag motel on Queens Blvd. The Pan American I believe it was. Got up at 4 am after getting to sleep at 2. Ended up spending almost the entire day in Fort Hamilton. The doctor touched my chest and asked if I had any pain or lumps in my breast??? Three X-rays and piss test, and having to walk around in tighty whities for the better part of 10 hours. OOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHH FUN!!!! Let me light your fire I love the kindredbabe, the MamaCaz, the SyKoPaThCHiK, and especially the RF and my little walking Disaster Area!!!! | ||||

| O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | Scariest part of MEPS is the physical, particularly the part where you are all lined up and you see the doctor at the edge of the curtain. Guy walks behind said curtain, you can't see, but you hear the doc say "turn around, bend over and spread your cheeks". thank God he's only looking....lol. Meps personel are worse than recruiters.... ever notice how "what you want" is always full, but what they NEED based on your asvab is always available?  AIM | ||||

| O&A Board Regular Registered: Nov. 01 | I was at MEPS from about 5am to 3pm. It's a long time but it didn't seem so bad because I was pretty busy throughout the day, except for that last hour and a half where I was waiting to get sworn in. The worst part was definatley the "turn your head and cough" part. Other than that it was ok. The thing that sucks about MEPS for you Army guys is that the Army makes you select an MOS right there and then. They don't give you enough time to think about it. The Marine Corps doesn't do that. They gave us at least 2 weeks after MEPS to think it over and then we sat down with our recruiters to make sure we were happy with our choice.  | ||||

When it came time for the selection of my MOS, the Sgt. says to me "What exactly did you want to do in the Army?". "MP" I say.... and sure enough the reply.... "Well, I just filled my last slot for when you want to leave, unless of course you want to put this all off 6 months or so?" Of course he knew I wouldn't. The same follows when I request Cav Scout, and so on.... Finally in a fit of frustration I say... "Well, you are the one looking at my scores, why don't yu tell me what I qualify for, and what you have open?" He then plops the massive book in front of me and says "anything in the book, you qualify for everything".... "but let me give you a few ideas" Funny... that book is like installation instructions written in Chinese... you see words but have no idea what they mean.... I had no idea what any of the three jobs he wanted me to do were, I simply knew they were all Intel. How did I decide you ask? Length of school and signing bonus.... what an ass I am...lol. When I got to Ft. Huachuca for AIT I realized that I should have taken the really long school.... who knew then that it was 52 weeks of language school in Monterey California? The moral is....know what you want and stick to it. All in all Meps isn't a bad day, just a long one. AIM | ||||

| Psychopath Registered: Mar. 02 | I went there today. Again. Left home at 8. Got back at 2:30. It's a two hour drive each way, so I actually got through really fast. I'm now officially a 91W, a health care specialist. I leave for basic training on September 27. After that, I have almost 5 months of AIT in Texas. And, to top it all off, I get to go to Korea!!! Since I'm not married, and have no dependents, I'll probably get to stay longer. :) R.I.P. They told me that some of the "women of loose morals" hide sharp objects in their nether regions, just so unsuspecting guys like me get our tools cut, exposing us to whatever diseases they have. I heard the place in Texas was named Fort Sam Houston, but no matter. Thanks for the advice on condoms. I'll be stocked and well-prepared for my journey into Heaven. R.I.P.
