Here's he question: Were you breast fed as a kid? How did you find out?

Personally, I don't know and it feels too wierd to ask.

Just thinking about all the things docs say about the psychological implications.

I heard it's very good to breast feed and that the longer you do it, the more socially adaptable your child becomes. That's why I still grab my mom's teat every now & then. How else do you think I managed to survive this board? (So far...)

I must have been breast fed. Everytime I see a mother breast feeding her baby, I curl up next to her in the fetal position and start crying. And it must have prepared me ok for the real world. I'm on this board all the time. Thats acceptable social behavior, isn't it??

Isn't it healthier for the child to be breast fed?

actually, a new study says that breast feeding past 4 months causes higher cholestorol later in life, so breast feeding for a longer time may be healthier mentally, but not physically. next month there'll be a new study with a new argument. but as for it being weird? i don't know, i was breast fed, and intend on breastfeeding if i have kids. at least until they start teething, i think that's a good time to stop:)
besides, it's a good excuse to whip em out in public without getting in trouble ;)

I didn't say it was weird to breast feed. Actually, its a very beautiful thing. I just think its weird for a grown man to ask his mother if he did.

I was breast fed, and plan on doing the same when I have kids. It is supposed to be healthier for the baby and helps their immune system. Its also a good way to bond with your baby as well. And I gotta agree with Crx...you can whip 'em out when ever you want ;)

Wow, a subject that I actually can add serious value to. Nice.......!

Okay, here's the lowdown from a dad of a 4 year old who was breast fed til he was 13 months old. All this information comes from experience and my son's pediatrician...

1 - When breastfed, mom's milk has a high level of antibiotics in it to help the baby fend off sickness. When my son was born, his doctor recommended pumping and freezing some of mom's milk during the first month and feed it to him if he got a cold later on.

2 - Breast feeding builds a very special bond between mom and baby. I can describe it, you gotta see it or experience it to understand it.

3 - Breast feeding stimulates and helps shrink the uterus after birth and also helps reduce pregnancy weight gained. Source: Wife's OB-GYN.
My wife lost 30 pounds in 2 months. Not a bad diet huh?

4 - Breast feeding keeps the boobs bigger. Do I really have to explain this? I WILL say this... the minute you stop breast feeding, the boobs go back to normal size. (I hated that part of it)

5 - Breast feeding is cost effective. It costs nothing. Compare that to $10-15 per day for formula. Don't get me wrong, my son comes first. I'd spend all the money I have on him and starve myself if I had to. But when you're newly married and struggling, budget does come to play. FYI - the average monthly expense for a newborn is about $400-500 per month (diapers, formula, clothes, medicine, etc...).

6 - Breast feeding also makes women horney. The boobs become extra sensitive. Ask any women who's breast fed if she's ever gotten 'wet' while feeding. If she says no she's lieing. It's the whole boob-snatch connection thing going on.

Grump is right on the money.

It's the best thing you can do for infants. There's tons of
research to back that up.

As for me, I refuse to give it up

If a woman is willing to go through a pregnancy, they should be willing to breast feed the child for 3/4 of a year at least. It's the best thing for the child.
