O&A Board Regular Registered: Nov. 00 | There is currently a big debate going on about wether or not the current trend of seeing favorite characters die heroicly is a good one. From Capt. Kirk to Doyle on "Angel" to a favorite Star Wars character (won't spoil it for those who haven't read the book), the recent trend in movies, books, and TV is to "increase" the drama and realism of the story by killing off major characters. So, what do you think about this trend? Do you enjoy seeing your favorite characters go out in a blaze of glory, or would you rather have them immortal and always survive to fight another day? ::For those who want to discuss characters who died in stuff people may not have seen/read, start your post with ****SPOILER ABOUT (NAME STORY)**** :: 'Anyone who is capable of being elected president should on no account be allowed to do the job' - The hitchhikers guide to the galaxy Arthur smiled at him wanly and shrugged again. He turned and smiled wanly at the rest of the pub just in case any of them had heard what was going on. None of them had, and none of them could understand what he was smiling at them for.

It's still a reletively fresh idea, having the main hero die, and its certainly a welcome change from the happy, bubble gum endings in lots of movies. A friend with weed is a friend indeed. A friend without it is a friend in need. O&A Board Regular Registered: Nov. 00 | I read an interview with the actor who played Doyle. He was told from Day 1 that his character was going to die near the end of the forst season. It was all a set-up to give Cordelia the visions and just make for a great story. Fans have been petitioning ever since to bring Doyle back form the dead. Pretty easy considering how many characters have died and come back (Angel, Darla, etc.) That is one episode I would really like to see. Or are you also refering to the millon of women who cried when Marcus (B5) was killed off. I just saw a portion of FarScape and it looks as though the hot blue chick died..... And for Star Wars, is it Yoda? Please don't tell me it was Yoda! "I use you for good board I'm not your friend" Guided by Dryblood.

Nothing's wrong with Angel... of course, when Jessica Alba and Dark Angel came along, all bets were off... ;) But I think it is a surprising and refreshing change of pace when the good guys aren't allowed to be immortal. It makes their war against evil that much more convincing, because after all heroes die in real life for their causes, so why not so in fantasy comics and TV/movies? Psychopath Registered: Dec. 00 | ************SPOILER 15 MINUTES*********** I know that when I saw 15 Minutes, which was a great movie, I was really thrown for a loop when Robert DeNiro died. While watching that segment, I had the mindset "this is all meaningless because you KNOW he's gonna live." Then he does his little resistance and i'm thinking "see, here it is, his miraculous escape." And then when the russian stabs him i was QUITE surprised. I really didn't think they'd kill off one of hte main characters, and a good guy at that. I think it's a good trend, it makes the story seem more realistic as other people have said. Now taking Applications...

To go out in a moment of glory or to die like a man...fighting. How I'm craving you, yeah! Every time I'm near you I always want to swallow you down I'll be right here if ya' need me In my life, I'll need you here, don't ask why I'll never disappear

O&A Board Veteran Registered: Sep. 00 | I don't mind when heroes die because heros are men and men die. It kind of throws you through a loop when the main hero is killed off but it shows that sometimes the bad guys do win. How about the ending to The Professional? And F-tard there is a number of closet Buffy/Angel watchers. Anxiously awaiting more details on American Psycho II, I hope it works. This message was edited by IkeaBoy on 4-17-01 @ 3:26 PM

A little integrity, that the good guy can get killed. Now, we need more stories where the bad guy wins. Some people think I'm a psycho, everybody else knows it!
