I just saw this movie and the movie was amazing. But a lot of us have questions. Questions like was teddy fucking with him? Did teddy murder his wife? I think the answer to both is yes. What do all of you think, I could be wrong?

I think the whole point was that Teddy was being 100% sincere the whole time and the protagonist (I forget his name at the moment) was fucking with his own head to avoid facing reality by giving himself false clues to point to Teddy. BTW, this flick deserves a best screenplay and best editing award.

I think Teddy was 100% innocent. Remember when he receives the photo of him pointing to his chest and earlier in the flick Carrie Anne Moss asks him "what's that spot for" and he said "for when I get my wife's killer." For some reason I keep thinking about those two scenes but that's what happened.

Teddy acted weird though at the beginning. He looked like he was admitting guilt. He was also using double names. But then again he needed to point to Teddy to have a reason to live. What about his wife having the diabetes? Do you think teddy was bullshitting him or was that true?

When I think about it more it seemed like Teddy was using him to do dirty work. Kill the drug dealer and take the $200,000. It also seemed weird how teddy said that the last guy who died was the killer but then said he killed the guy last year. I don't know if teddy was the killer but this guy was not exactly good.

hell no, teddy was definitely the good guy here. that's the whole thing with the movie, if you think about it the actual bad guy is pretty much the main character. he forces himself to remember that story about that guy just to take his mind off what really happened and he's gonna keep going out and killing all these innocent people just so he has something to do with his life. and the guy he killed and left in the basement wasn't the killer, it was just some druggie douchebag who teddy setup just so the main guy could feel like he's actually doing something. also remember that teddy said that he was the cop who believed him and gave him the whole police report which the main character scribbled some stuff out of so he could keep believing his own lies. teddy was really the only good guy in the movie.

Teddy wasn't the killer I've come to realize that once I thought about it but Teddy wasn't exactly the greatest guy. Remember he was going to take that drug dealer's money. Teddy doesnt seem good a whole bunch tho if he is setting up people for the main character to kill. To get the whole plot I am going to have to get the DVD and watch the last scene first and first scene last.

No i don't believe that Teddy was a "good guy". Lenny was being used throughout the movie. Teddy used him to get the $200,00. Carrie-ann Moss used him to kill teddy & to get rid of Dodd so she could keep the money.

questions that I have about the movie
How did Carre-ann Moss boyfriend know Lenny?

What happened to Lenny's Tattoo that said "I did it"? I was shown momentary at the end of the movie.

I saw Memento about two weeks ago...it was great! I think that Teddy had good intentions to begin with, but once he saw that Lenny would never be happy he decided to make him useful for him.

ok well if we're gonna start picking the movie apart than i got a question. if lenny couldn't create any new memories since his head was slammed into the mirror the night his wife was raped and almost killed, than how the hell does he remember the whole thing with him actually being the one who killed his wife. granted, he says through repetition he remembers that sammy story but i still dont get how he could remember any of that stuff though since it occured after his injury when he supposedly couldn't create any new memories. and as the oh so wise opie would say: definitely agree about getting this on DVD and playing it backwards to see it fowards

Lenny can remember everything from the past, but he can't make any new memories. His last memory is his wife dying in the bathroom, but he has created a story about Sammy Jenkins to further explain his condition, and to ease himself from the blame. Although he can't make new memories, I think the shock of killing his wife, made him displace the blame and change the story in his mind. It is actually somewhat common when people go through a traumatic experience.

I REALLY liked this movie! The only thing I have to add is a quick hint I noticed. When they showed Sammy for the last time, sitting in a chair in the hospital, for a quick flash before the scene changed it turned into Lenny sitting in the chair. You'll have to watch that part in slow motion at home to best catch it, but it makes me wonder what else is hidden that I didn't pick up on...

You know what else I noticed, when Teddy told Lenny to write something on the woman's picture (I forgot her name) he didn't use his regular handwriting, which he said was the one thing that he always trusted, meaning he wrote it odd so he would know better than to believe what he had written. Does anyone remember the scene I am talking about, it was in the car outside the warehouse.

I just saw the movie tonight, sue me.

Anyway, GREAT fucking movie very quality. Let me see if I got everything straight:

Sammy Jankins was actually a con man that Leonard exposed.
Leonard actually killed his wife with the insulin.
Teddy was using Leonard to kill drig dealers named John G___ and make some money.
Leonard used himself to kill Teddy when Teddy told him the truth.
Natalie set up Leonard to run Dodd out of town, and so she could get the drug money her dead bf had. (?)

Now one thing that confused me, the flash at the end of Leonard laying with his wife, with a tattoo saying "I GOT HIM" or something like that. So after the assault, he eventually killed the real John G__, THEN unknowingly killed his wife, and had that tattoo removed so that he'd have a purpose? Or am I totally off track.......

And FMFB, I know what scene you're talking about, and yes he did write it in a different handwriting.

I was thinking about seeing it again but The Animal looks so good. I agree with Norton how funny it is everytime he falls down. And who doesn't think that "What's the Worst That Can Happen?" will be among the top comedies of all time?

I saw it again in theaters today because I had nothing to do and was amazed once again how awesome it is. It's by far one of best movies of the year (Memento might be best, Ghost World in second place) and it totally just flows. Guy Pearce's performance is probably the best leading man this year because let's face it, he pulled it off.

I think Natalie's boyfriend knew him because Teddy used him to set up drug deals.

between this (which he may deserve an Oscar for...i can't think of a better male lead performance; I consider Tim Roth supporting), and the upcoming The Count of Monte Cristo and his lead in the remake of The Time Machine by this time next year Guy Pearce will be everywhere, his popularity will explode.

Sorry to bring this back to the top again, but I just rented this last night. I thought I had a grip on what happened, but after reading through this thread, I'm more confused than ever.

Please, someone who has watched this backwards, forwards, or from the middle, explain it to me!

And yes, I thought he looked like Val Kilmer.
