| O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00  | Personally, this cabbie is an asshole. Whatever happened with just doing a good deed for somebody and not expecting a huge reward in return. By MITCHELL FINK Daily News Gossip Columnist Cabbie Mohamed Ibrahim, who squawked at getting a $75 reward for returning a $4 million cello, thinks his good deed is worth $40,000. Ibrahim, 52, came up with that figure yesterday after representatives of musician Lynn Harrell offered to take back the $75 check he gave the cabbie on Tuesday and replace it with one for $1,000. But that was not good enough for Ibrahim, according to a source close to Harrell, who said the cabbie arrived at the $40,000 figure by calculating a finder's fee of 1% of the cello's estimated worth. The 57-year-old Harrell had left his cello, a 1673 Stradivarius, in Ibrahim's cab on May 14. After Ibrahim drove away, he realized what had happened and tried to return the cello to the doorman at Harrell's Manhattan building. The doorman didn't accept the instrument, but passed Ibrahim's phone number to Harrell. The musician retrieved the cello the following day at the cabbie's Queens garage. Now the two are negotiating. Harrell's reps and Ibrahim spoke yesterday, the source told the Daily News. But no deal was struck. "The driver wants what amounts to a retroactive ransom," said the source. "[Harrell] already has his cello back. [Ibrahaim] is not in a very good bargaining position."  | ||||

The cellist than gave him $1000 and the cabbie said he thought $40,000 was good because that was 1% of the value of the lost item. Now they are negotiating between 40K and 1K. That fucking lowlife piece of shit cab driver deserves nothing. You help someone out of the kindness of your heart, not looking for a payday. Any normal person would have been fine with $75 and just knowing that they helped someone would make you feel good about yourself. Can another sterotype now be added for Indians in Kid's thread. IF you own a $4 million cello, why would you be in Mohamed's cab anyway...shouldn't you be in a Limo or something? "Naught fer Nuttin'" but it shows that Lynn Harrell is an ignorant cheap bastard. Geez...we're talking a $4,000,000 instrument here...& 1% does not seem like an outrageous amount... Think if he had left his wallet with say $1000 in cash...1%=$10. That doesn't sound like that much now does it? So, personally...FUCK THE IDIOT FOR LEAVING A $4 MILLION STRADIVARIUS IN A CAB....He should pay out the ass for being that stupid. My only problem with the Cabbie is that he gave the damn thing back before he tried to renegotiate. If he was really insulted by the original $75, he should've just returned it, and said that he didn't want any reward. You might be on the street, need to get somewhere and don't have time to call a limo. This cabbie is an asshole who SHOULD get nothing. The cellist was kind enough to give him some money which he didn't have to do and now this asshole just wants more and more cash. While the initial reward was at the very least insulting, the cabbie should have simply realized that it is a screwy world we roam and walked away. But to now be actually negotiating.... as if there was a mandatory reward for doing a good deed..... simply ludicrous. Stories like this make it very easy to be less than enthused about the state of our nation. Say hello to my little friend(s)! Once again I am newbieless. | ||||
